In November 1944, 18-year-old June Walker boards an unmarked bus, destined for a city that doesn't officially exist. Dewey, a gifted scientist herself, slowly realizes the implications of "the gadget" her father is working on. She and Suze, another Los Alamos child, find comfort in each other's friendship.
