About this listen

On March 2, 1998, 10-year-old Natascha Kampusch was kidnapped and found herself locked in a house that would be her home for the next eight years. She was starved, beaten, treated as a slave, and forced to work for her deranged captor. But she never forgot who she was, and she never gave up hope of returning to the world. This is her story.

It’s hard to say I “like” the account of someone who has been abducted (it’s such a heinous act), I appreciated Natascha’s story on a few fronts. One is that, despite her desire for privacy, she realized the only way for her story to be told truthfully was to do it herself. Another is that at a young age she set a milestone at which she would attempt to escape - and she did it. And the last was that she chose who much to reveal, and put boundaries around private details. I applaud her.

Hauntingly courageous

I read a lot of reviews about this book that were not that great, so much that it delayed me listening to this book for a long time. I’m glad I choose to do it, Natascha tells the story so well. The abuse she faced, how he made her feel so alone she wanted to end her life, and her escape. I admire her so much, this was a great listen.

Not what I was expecting

It was as if I were in there with her. Her honesty and assessment of her kidnapper shows how intelligent she is as person despite being robbed of her young formative years.

Well told.

So much to learn from this story! It makes me reflect on how children are treated in their various homes and schools and the effect on their self esteem.

Very well done!’

This was a heartbreaking story. I couldn't understand how when Natasha finally escaped there wasn't much help for her I liked how she explained her treatment once she was free.I hope she finds happiness and love in the future. Bless her.
