Story
When Jade Kelly met her new foster mother, she thought her prayers had been answered. Kindly Carol Docherty was everything her violent, drug-addicted mother was not. Loving and nurturing, she fed and clothed 10-year-old Jade and offered a life free of fear from near constant abuse. Or so Jade thought. As soon as social workers in Lancashire stopped their regular checks on Jade’s progress, Carol turned. Over the next six years Jade and three other girls were effectively kept prisoner in a bedroom she called the ‘bad room’ and subjected to unrelenting physical and mental abuse.

Story
I was born and broken in Birkenhead, abused from infancy by a network of every kind of pervert from ‘thinks it’s love’ to ‘show it hurts’. I was unwanted, beaten, sold, swapped, photographed, filmed, left for dead, corrupted, blamed, betrayed, ignored and orphaned. But I was also born with a fire inside me. I call it my Phoenix Fire. Story
From the outside, there was no reason to suspect the family life of young schoolchild Keri was anything but unremarkable. Two loving parents, a backdrop of 1960s Britain; life had provided for her, at least with the riches of modesty. Keri herself however, would often confound teachers with her erratic behaviour, which was at best sullen and withdrawn; at worst violently disruptive. When challenged, she would only exacerbate her growing reputation as a fantasist; weaving terrible tales about the "abuse" she was suffering at the hands of her very creators.

Story
Our prisons and mental hospitals are filled with tragic stories like Tuesday Storm's. Her early childhood was riddled with torturous "games" and violent physical attacks. She was isolated from the rest of her family, locked in an attic with nothing but a bare bed and a bucket for a toilet, and fed just enough to be kept alive. The experts say it's next to impossible to find the soul's light in a dark past like Tuesday's.

In this much-publicised third volume, Kat recounts her early-mid teen years; no longer a small child, but a girl on the cusp of adolescence. Still traumatized by her early experiences, but not entirely without that sense of vague hope that is the inalienable property of youth. Now at Duncroft Approved School for “emotionally disturbed girls”, her life had come to resemble that of a prisoner; a good day was a bad one and a bad day was horrific.

Thank you for Sharing tout story
This book made me go through a lot of emotions. Thanks for the autor for sharing such a hard story. I really wish you the best for the futur years to come. I was privileged to have been brought into a living family, but I know my mother went through sexual abuse and she did everything she could to also break the cycle. Even though your story is a lot different (and much worse), I feel like she was talking through tout words. Wish you well.

Heartbreaking 💔
This was the most tragic story I've ever heard. It was told so well, I couldn't turn it off- hanging onto every word. Trigger warning for anybody who has suffered childhood abuse. While my abuse wasn't this bad, I still found myself able to identify with so much of her story. A shocking story I'll never forget, but I'm so glad I listened.

Amazingly written
It’s difficult to say I enjoyed this book. The trauma inflicted on the author for so many years was horrifying and sad. It was well written, but hard to read. There are some really graphic descriptions of the abuse that I had to take a break from time to time so I didn’t cry. However I am glad that Maureen and people like her speak out and bring abuse like this to light. I only hope that we could help all children who are in such dire situations.

Painful story.
Couldn't finish this story. Very good narrator but the subject matter is too painful. Takes a person stronger than me to finish hearing this story, and I've read many a memoir. Can't even believe this story is real. I have nothing but sorrow, sadness and compassion for this author. It's shocking anyone could survive this type of horror, coming from someone who has experienced their fair share. This woman is heroic for being able to not only survive but also to be able to share her story. Very well written but too hard to listen to this level of pain.

The triumph of the human spirit. Women are amazing.
Women face so many challenges just from being women in a male-dominated culture that can threaten, undermine, hurt, dismiss, even destroy them. But women like Maureen Wood find their way through and inspire all other women. And hopefully teach men how it can be to be a woman in a violence-prone male world. Excellent memoir. Well-written. Such a brave woman.
