Publisher's Summary

From #1 New York Times bestselling author Jennifer L. Armentrout comes book two in her Flesh and Fire series…

The only one who can save Sera now is the one she spent her life planning to kill.

The truth about Sera’s plan is out, shattering the fragile trust forged between her and Nyktos. Surrounded by those distrustful of her, all Sera has is her duty. She will do anything to end Kolis, the false King of Gods, and his tyrannical rule of Iliseeum, thus stopping the threat he poses to the mortal realm.

Nyktos has a plan, though, and as they work together, the last thing they need is the undeniable, scorching passion that continues to ignite between them. Sera cannot afford to fall for the tortured Primal, not when a life no longer bound to a destiny she never wanted is more attainable than ever. But memories of their shared pleasure and unrivaled desire are a siren’s call impossible to resist.

And as Sera begins to realize that she wants to be more than a Consort in name only, the danger surrounding them intensifies. The attacks on the Shadowlands are increasing, and when Kolis summons them to Court, a whole new risk becomes apparent. The Primal power of Life is growing inside her, pushing her closer to the end of her Culling. And without Nyktos’s love—an emotion he’s incapable of feeling—she won’t survive her Ascension. That is if she even makes it to her Ascension and Kolis doesn’t get to her first. Because time is running out. For both her and the realms.

Haaaaa! 😬😬😬 I NEED the next book like RIGHT NOW

I’ve read this book about three times; gets my blood going every single time. What a series this is. Stina though, she is bomb of audio narration. I don’t think I can read of these books, I just prefer to listen to them because she make them come alive and makes them so real, like I’m watching a movie. She’s simple incredible and full credit to JLA . This series is worth all hype and accolades. 🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾

Loved the book and the voice actor!

I literally love everything about this book. The angst. The enemies to lovers. The SPICE.
The voice actor was amazing, I really loved her work on this and really enjoyed listening as she did a really great job of bringing it to life for me.

Boring

This book was so much longer than it needed to be. It was so slow and didn’t keep my interest. I really enjoyed the first book and will likely read the next because I am invested enough of what happens.

This book was SO FRICKEN GOOD

I really don't know how to start this review. I've spent the past day binge reading this book. Not only was it a devastating experience but also extremely satisfying. And the fact that I now have to wait for the next book feels like I might die. Is there a cliffhanger? You bet your ass. Do I feel emotionally destroyed? 1000%.

This book was so goddamn good. Sera definitely made choices that set her apart from Poppy. I know a lot of criticisms surrounded their similarities when the first book came out. This book shifted that. She had some really killer moments in this book, and I'm not just talking about violent moments. She was a total BADASS. Did she make a few stupid choices? Yep, ofc but she usually got to make up for it. But it wasn't the whole book being filled with her dumbass choices. Mostly, just the beginning. Actually, it could be argued that the dumbass-ery award be given to Nyktos.

This book is centered around the embers of power Sera has inside her and how to use that power to dethrone the current King of the Gods. The biggest challenge is that Seras death seems impossible to avoid especially since Nyktos is unable to love her which is the most direct way to avoid her death. And based on the way the first book ends her previous choices make it seem like an impossibility in general. Sera only wants to protect others even at the expense of her own life. However, as this book progresses we get to see Sera start to actually live and value her life. She no longer feels resigned to a short life and begins to fight for it. The first step in finding an alternative path to life is to gain protection from the other Primals by becoming the consort to Nyktos. However, this proves to be a tougher challenge than anticipated and she discovers that some of Nyktos' past choices may sever the fragile trust they have built.

What to expect
✅ One bed
✅ One horse
✅ Soul bond type thing
✅ Taking care when injured
✅ MCs trying to protect each other
✅ Jealousy moments
✅ Power play touching (think ACOMF and the court of nightmares)
✅ Strong FMC
✅ Banter, sass and whole lotta bickering
✅ Shadow hands
✅ Voyeurism
✅ Blood play

This book ratchets up the spice level. There are a LOT of 🔥🔥🔥 moments, and I was here for it. I loved that the power dynamics are reversed in the bedroom due to Nyktos' experience. It was refreshing. Even though Nyktos is unable to love in one sense of the word, I found him to be so wonderful 99% of the time. And their relationship was beautiful to read about. He's just as damaged as Sera, and the way that they see each other and support each other was heartwarming.

Also, the dynamic between Sera and the drakon was great. Reading about her unease with a baby drakon climbing all over her or throwing tantrums was hilarious. And the relationship between the first Drakon ( Can't remember his name - but the one bonded to Nyktos') was so fun to read. He was so blunt and all knowing. It was fun to watch him taunt her. And baby Reaver!!

I found myself livid for Sera during a specific part of this book. I won't spoil anything but when she began to rage and her inner monologue began, I could feel myself flushing and being pissed off for her. Yes, there was a good reason eventually unearthed but man, I was so mad.

I feel like I need to go back reread FBAA now... Especially with the prophecy revealed at the end. Having the knowledge of future events makes it even more intriguing. I'm really excited to see what happens next. Ash is gonna lose his shit.

Seriously so good! And damn you Jennifer Armentrout!!

This was such a good book! I love how it ties in Blood and Ash. I love hearing the names of people and towns we hear in the books from the future. I love it all! The one thing I don’t love is the wait for the next one! Seriously you ended it like that! I can’t take the wait! But in all seriousness it’s an amazing series so far and I can’t wait for the next ones.

I am absolutely emotionally devastated, & in love

Props to Stina Nielsen for toning down the "eeeeether" this book. 😅 As always, JLA delivered. a lot more than my tender heart could take. The romance, the betrayals, the twists. I'm in LOVE but I screamed out of anger a lot and spent the majority of the book in tears 🙃

One of the best stories I've ever read

Holy shit. I'm emotionally rocked after this one. Imo this is JLAs best work. It's incredible and terrible and inspiring and devastating and all the "ings."

I'm gonna need a bit before I can formulate a review, but it's one of the best books, if not the best book I've ever read.

One thing I can put into words right now is that this story had 2 tropes that are in my 3 most hated tropes. 2 out of 3 were in this book, and I still LOVED it. I would've DNFd nearly every other book that had either of those 2 things in it. I say this because there is a "group" of us that share a simmering hatred for these things, and it's an extreme for us. If you are in this group and have started it, you know exactly what I'm talking about because you prob came here to see if this carries on, lol. We are the people who will instantly DNF over these things and yell at the screen/ book. If you are one of those people....hang in there and reep the benefits of the fury and frustration you will feel from time to time while reading it. It's honestly the first book I've EVER read in which these tropes actually contributed to the story. They didn't just happen because something had to. These things are always just thrown in to cause conflict and to help the relationship progress and make a h seem needy. Somehow, JLA managed to have Sera do something that every other h in the bookverse has seemed needy or pathetic for, and Sera actually seems stronger for it. I've just never seen anyone successfully pull this off. The whole "it makes them strong to let themselves be vulnerable or put themselves out there" never ever has this traits/behavior ever seemed like anything other than neediness or patheticness to me personally while reading a book and here it did. It contributed to how I ultimately felt about her strength by the end of the book even though while listening, I kind of wanted to shake her for it. Like girl STOP trying.

Stina, girl, this is your best yet.

I’ve been critical of Stina’s performances prior in other books written by this author. But she did a phenomenal job with this one. Bravo. Keep up the good work, girl!

I need the next book

I highly recommend!! I am in love with this series and its counterpart “Blood and Ash” series. This author has a way of making you feel as though you are there with the characters in a way I have found very few others able to do. Each time I finish a book I want the next one. I have read both series several times just and they never get old. Read it you will not be disappointed!!
