We tend to think of meditation as a formal practice we block time out for each day. But what if every moment of your life was your meditation? For Eckhart Tolle, meditation shouldn't be approached as a chore or a means to an end. Rather, meditation is something that you live. "The aim of meditation," states Eckhart, "is that it eventually becomes your normal state of consciousness." Essential Meditations with Eckhart Tolle points the way toward this quiet, constant state of Presence - where practice gives way to the realization of your innermost identity.

Publisher's Summary
Building on the astonishing success of The Power of Now, Eckhart Tolle presents listeners with an honest look at the current state of humanity: He implores us to see and accept that this state, which is based on an erroneous identification with the egoic mind, is one of dangerous insanity.
Tolle tells us there is good news, however. There is an alternative to this potentially dire situation. Humanity now, perhaps more than in any previous time, has an opportunity to create a new, saner, more loving world. This will involve a radical inner leap from the current egoic consciousness to an entirely new one.
In illuminating the nature of this shift in consciousness, Tolle describes in detail how our current ego-based state of consciousness operates. Then gently, and in very practical terms, he leads us into this new consciousness. We will come to experience who we truly are, which is something infinitely greater than anything we currently think we are, and learn to live and breathe freely.

Not for everyone!
This was the 5th book of Self-Help titles I had read and by the time I got to this book I found all self-help books really talk about the same thing. That said, Eckhart Tolle's voice is so dull and at times I couldn't understand what he was saying. Probably the worst narrator of a book I have listened too, He can write well but he shouldn't be narrating books!

Not power of now good but good all the same
Where I found the power of now foundational and eye opening, I found this offering less powerful but still very profound. Maybe it's because the power of now gave me such insight that this book felt a little revision like or simplified in comparison. Some great insights all the same.
Be, here, now, and put your ego away. Sounds fairly simple yet so challenging... I'm working on it ✌️

Peace in consciousness
A New Earth changed my perspective on life. I had already been meditating regularly, trying to find purpose in “my” life and career. I knew it was important to be present in order to find satisfaction, but I didn’t understand the meaning of it or its vast connection to the universe. Highly recommend this book.

A Realized Being Shares In Person...a rare find.
Wow, much more value than I expected from the title. I stumbled on this book and am ecstatic that I did.
This book/audio should be experienced by everyone for one or more of the following three reasons:
1) If you are happily going about life, not on a spiritual quest, never had a mystical moment and believe that you are just like everyone else, then this book will give you insights on how to experience more life and help you answer many of your difficult questions that you seldom think about.
2) If you have had a mystical experience, remember it and want to get back to that "state" again, then this book shows you how to, why you should want to and what amazing things await you when you do.
3) If you are on a spiritual quest, stop here. You need not search further. Eckhart gives you your answers in clear English for the Western reader. This is an amazing find for you.
Now, the down side. You will be distracted by Eckhart's accent. After a while in the book I realized why (although he never really speaks much about himself). Realized beings in the "state" have a breathy, deliberate, considered and generally slow way of speaking. This can lull you to sleep, but listern to the words and you will be fine.
This is the real McCoy. He knows. Listen.

The best of the best
Sometimes a book comes along that takes all of the murky concepts that you are struggling with, shines a light on them, and makes them simple and powerful. This for me is that book. I drive to work and back each day, 1-hour each way. This book has become my constant commuting companion. I have listened to it over and over and over again. Each time I get something new from it even though I have heard it many times before. It doesn't matter if I start at the beginning or in some random place. New meaning and insight just keep coming through. I can see subtle changes in my life each day as I apply the wisdom. I have no doubt that I am changing the world! Thank you Ekhart Tolle.

Hum
While I really am drawn to the author's take on the world, how to approach life and view oneself I disappointingly was surprised by his reading voice. This sense of surprise was quickly replaced by an interesting problem of being drawn into the voice and losing tract of what he was saying. Then, I found that the reading was possibly the best remedy for insomnia ever invented. Try as I did, repeatedly to stay awake and really listen to his message I never could. I shelved the recorded book and moved on to a text copy which I give a whole hearted thumbs up. Oh well, Audible I applaud your efforts at having the author read his own book, but for me it just didn't work out.

A life-changing book
I'm a successful over-educated cynic.
And this book changed my whole outlook on everything and made me a much happier person.....and I was happy to begin with!
Unless you are at a certain stage of life/education/maturity - you will not "get" this book. Once you are ready for this book, however; it will astound you and open your eyes to a way of looking at the world and existence that you never suspected.
The performance of the reader is just fine. It is not obtrusive and seems to be less "important" than the message that is being delivered. In my whole life, this is the ONLY book I have now read to/listened to more than once.
I did not expect this.
If I could give this book 10 stars, I would.

Spirituality for the introverted and childless
I read this book twice in a row to absorb the depth of what Tolle was trying to convey. I woke up two weeks later with amounted to a spiritual hangover, having had a holy war with my own ego.
I realized that I could not live in this sate of egoless ever present consciousness. This may be possible for an introverted middle aged man without children and battling depression but for a parent with three young children, it is not a realistic endeavor, especially when your attention is mostly toward others and when you need to plan the daily activities of four or five people.
I much prefer the Book of Secrets by Deepak Chopra. He treats the ego has a integral part of our human self, not as an enemy that has to be suppressed into nothingness. According to Chopra, spirituality is a layered process, not a quick (and unlikely) fix to all human pathologies.
Eckhart Tolle has my admiration for making us aware of the nature of the human ego and for reminding us to live in the present but like any good thing, it has to be done with a certain measure. Brought too far, these teachings defeat their purpose.

Listening continually, always gleaning more...
A spiritual book for those not into organized religion. This book changed me after one listen. It reveals how most suffering and stress come from within. The mind is a tool to be used for in-the-moment problems, but otherwise the mind takes a person out of the here-and-now with habitual thinking about past and future speculations. I bought this and listen to it over and over to help deepen the effect. After this book, I realized all my "problems" are as illusory as a mirage.

Not so great
I listened to this book for 2 hours and couldn't tolerate it anymore. The narration was so boring and monotone, I couldn't even concentrate on the meaning of what was being said. I'm sure it's a great book with excellent meaning, but I think I'll read it instead of listening to it on audio. I didn't rate the content as much as the audio itself.

The negative reviewers complained about Eckhart Tolle's monotone, saying that it put them to sleep. I, however, found his voice to be the perfect vehicle for his message, which emphasizes the differences between the ego and consciousness. I strongly recommend this book to everyone on a spiritual quest.

awakening
I loved this audio book!
Eckhart Tolle' voice at first seemed a little odd, but I soon got very used to it and by the end of the book I enjoyed his voice, it is very soothing and very genuine.
I really needed this book, I truly feel different. My Mom died a few months before and my mind was very busy in the past. Tolle really gave me a new way of looking at the world.
I enjoyed the whole book and have listened to it 3 times (long commute to work) but the third chapter is where it gets interesting. Man, I had no idea how much ego I had. Definitely awakening. As a Mom and a wife I have seen a big change in myself over the past 6 weeks since I have listened to this audio book. Thanks Oprah for recommending it!

Fantastic awakening tool
Eckhart Tolle has written an even better book than his great "Power of the now". "A new earth" with its prophetic-like statement is a delight to hear and read, whilst your brain seems to open to consciousness. Absolute must. For everyone.

Read that book
This is one of those books you just need to read and not listen. First of all the concepts and expressions are challenging enough and from time to time you need to stop and think about what you just read and even maybe read it again. And second of all... Eckhart Tolle is an amazing, important and even life changing author, but this should be the last book he records himself. He is monotone, inexpressive and sometimes emphasises on the wrong part of the sentence (this comes from his German accent). After the first few minutes it becomes pretty annoying and frustrating.

The spiritual book I would recommend to everyone
The fact that it's read by Eckhart Tolle himself adds a ton to the teaching

Mind blowing!
A MUST read personal growth book. Interesting for everyone but will be specially enjoyed by people who are into spirituality and learning about the relation between the mind (thoughts, ego) and consciousness (being, awakening).

Good content
I like the words. However, I do not like to be harsh but the narration is almost laughable. It's like he's actively trying to get us to go to sleep. I have tried to listen to it in bed and, it works... Having set the timer to 30 min. The problem is, due to the 1 million tiny chapters (who are named, Bravo, this should be mandatory on the app) it is hard to find the point from where you should pick up again.

One of my favorite books !
This book changed my view of understanding life. I like the fact that the author is reading his own book. It is transmitting the knowledge in a very deep and profound manner. It did not bother me that the author is slow on the contrary, it gaves me the time to understand the depth of the text. A wonderful book, an eye opener.

Coming to realization
One of the most important books I have read in my life. Eckhart explains the nameless as close as you can before you get away from it.

Hard to follow
For me this book was very difficult to listen without falling asleep. Hard to focus, the rhythm is not dynamic
