Publisher's Summary

In this series debut from New York Times bestselling author Kelley Armstrong, a modern-day homicide detective finds herself in Victorian Scotland—in an unfamiliar body—with a killer on the loose.

"A great read."—Charlaine Harris

May 20, 2019: Homicide detective Mallory is in Edinburgh to be with her dying grandmother. While out on a jog one evening, Mallory hears a woman in distress. She’s drawn to an alley, where she is attacked and loses consciousness.

May 20, 1869: Housemaid Catriona Thomson had been enjoying a half-day off, only to be discovered that night in a lane, where she’d been strangled and left for dead . . . exactly one-hundred-and-fifty years before Mallory was strangled in the same spot.

When Mallory wakes up in Catriona's body in 1869, she must put aside her shock and adjust quickly to the reality: life as a housemaid to an undertaker in Victorian Scotland. She soon discovers that her boss, Dr. Gray, also moonlights as a medical examiner and has just taken on an intriguing case, the strangulation of a young man, similar to the attack on herself. Her only hope is that catching the murderer can lead her back to her modern life . . . before it's too late.

In A Rip Through Time, New York Times bestselling author Kelley Armstrong introduces a brand-new series mixing mystery, romance, and fantasy with thrilling results.

6/5 highly recommend

I absolutely loved this novel. Armstrong really showcases her skills by taking charge of this frequently used idea and really making it unique. I will be recommending it to friends, and add to my reread list.

Good idea for a story but fails to follow through

I gave up on this book about half way through. The writing is very pedestrian with many unnecessary sentences. Almost as if the author was paid by the word. The pace just dragged and the characters never really developed to a point where I was interested in what happened to them.

I will say the narrator was great but one can only do so much with the material provided.

The book started as a cool concept of time travel but then got mired down in so much minutia that any concept of a story was just not materializing at a pace that would keep the reader engaged. By the middle of the book I was fast forwarding 30 secs at a time to try and see where the story was going.

I finally gave up. Don't even care how it ends, honestly.

I really enjoyed this. Very different since it has some time travel but at same time very interesting read. Looking forward to book 2. Narration was very good. I recommend!

Loved it!

Being a Canadian, I loved the canadian references. Too many stories revolve around the USA. As for the story, it was well written and the narration was wonderfully done. Can’t wait for the next one.

Too juvenile a storytelling both in plot and characterizations

Kate Handford’s performance was very good with nice control of emotional inflection, good character personifications, change of voice, and narration pace and timing. I maybe could have given this performance a 5 stars but I guess couldn’t separate the performance from what was all in all a very weak story.

In the main, I found this Kelly Armstrong story to be just too juvenile for my liking. The plot itself was just too simple and straightforward in all ways. More importantly, the explained character motivations, dialog interactions, and perspectives always seemed very young and naive. For me this made for a lack of believability, and a growing feeling of disengagement with the characters and story. I doubt I will read or listen to anything else from this author.

I came across this while listening to another book by the author. It brings a unique view on mystery and time travel. Leaves you hungry for more! Hope to see the return of these characters!

Sound quality pulsed- annoyingly

Good story, well read. The sound pulses louder and quieter and detracted from the listening experience.

Best audiobook yet

I really enjoyed the reader, sometime they are not believable. Like the main man sounding like a 10 yr old girl. Can’t get into that. Someday it would be awesome to have a man and woman do the read together. Since she has been my favourite, I would love it with her ❤️❤️
