Thorne Manor has always been haunted...and it has always haunted Bronwyn Dale. As a young girl, Bronwyn could pass through a time slip in her great-aunt's house, where she visited William Thorne, a boy her own age, born two centuries earlier. And when she returns, William is waiting.

Story
John Grisham is the acknowledged master of the legal thriller. In his first collection of novellas, law is a common thread, but America’s favorite storyteller has several surprises in store. “Homecoming” takes us back to Ford County. Jake Brigance is back, but he’s not in the courtroom. In “Strawberry Moon,” we meet Cody Wallace, a young death row inmate only three hours away from execution. The “Sparring Partners” are the Malloy brothers, Kirk and Rusty, two young lawyers who inherited a once prosperous firm when its founder, their father, was sent to prison.

Story
When Casey first arrived at the off-the-grid town, an isolated community built as a haven for people running from their pasts, she had no idea what to expect, with no cell phones, no internet, no mail, and no way of getting in or out without the town council's approval. She certainly didn't expect to be the homicide detective on two separate cases or to begin a romantic relationship with her boss. But the very last thing she expected was for the council to drop a dangerous criminal into their midst without a plan to keep him imprisoned, and to keep others safe.

Publisher's Summary
"A great read." —Charlaine Harris
In this series debut from New York Times bestselling author Kelley Armstrong, a modern-day homicide detective finds herself in Victorian Scotland—in an unfamiliar body—with a killer on the loose.
May 20, 2019: Homicide detective Mallory is in Edinburgh to be with her dying grandmother. While out on a jog one evening, Mallory hears a woman in distress. She’s drawn to an alley, where she is attacked and loses consciousness.
May 20, 1869: Housemaid Catriona Thomson had been enjoying a half-day off, only to be discovered that night in a lane, where she’d been strangled and left for dead . . . exactly one-hundred-and-fifty years before Mallory was strangled in the same spot.
When Mallory wakes up in Catriona's body in 1869, she must put aside her shock and adjust quickly to the reality: life as a housemaid to an undertaker in Victorian Scotland. She soon discovers that her boss, Dr. Gray, also moonlights as a medical examiner and has just taken on an intriguing case, the strangulation of a young man, similar to the attack on herself. Her only hope is that catching the murderer can lead her back to her modern life . . . before it's too late.
Outlander meets The Alienist in Kelley Armstrong's A Rip Through Time, the first audiobook in this utterly compelling series, mixing romance, mystery, and fantasy with thrilling results.

Time Travel Mystery well worth a credit!
I went into this book with the wrong idea of what it was and I am glad because what it turned out to be was so much better. I want to thank #NetGalley the publisher Macmillan Audio and author Kelley Armstrong for allowing me an advanced reader copy of this audio-book in exchange for an honest review. I thought this would be a time travel romance book where the would be a predictable love triangle and lots of swooning etc.. Its not that at all. The lead is a 30 year old homicide detective who ends up falling through a rift in time, this is not explained there is no science here trying to explain the time travel which is fine. It is called a rip through time after all so I did not expect her to have invented a time machine. What it actually is turns out to be a pretty good murder mystery mixed with some time travel and in a setting with a group of rich well developed characters. The story moves well and really kept me interested from opening to close. The last hour or so really surprised me not because of some did not see it coming twist but because of how well thought out the end of the book was from the writer. It definitely leaves the world open for a sequel which is good because I loved this book and want to read the next one as soon as possible. I never felt at any time in the story that events were forced, like this only happened because she needed it to happen to move the story along, I have been so frustrated with so many books where they do something completely out of character of the protagonist just to move the story along and this avoids that trap completely. The narration was also absolutely top notch. Kate Handford did such a good job that I now plan on finding other books narrated by her as I have found that to be an effective way of finding new authors by just searching other stories narrated by the best narrators. It looks like she has a decent selection of books that she has already narrated in the past and I am looking forward to listening to more from her. I will also be reading more from Kelley Armstrong! #timetravel #kelleyarmstrong #mystery

It wasn't what I expected - it was better!
I have read several of Kelley Armstrong's books, and among them her two prior time traveling stand alones. I liked them a lot and expected A Rip Through Time to be time traveling romances like the others. However, it is clear they were just the warm-ups to the main event - tjis series.
I love that the main storyline is a murder mystery and not a romance. It's exciting to follow the main character's struggle to navigate victorian Scotland while trying to solve the mystery. All the characters are well written with a lot of attention to detail. You want to get to know them better.
As someone who has been to Edinburgh but am not overly familiar with the city I think the author did a great job with capturing the atmosphere. I could imagine all the different locations described which for me enriched the experience.
One thing I both love and hate is that the book ends with somewhat of a cliffhanger. I hate that I don't get the full story right now as I'm craving to know how it ends. But I love that this means there are more books to come. I guess patience is a virtue.
Lastly, the narrator does a great job! I'm sure actual Scottish people will cringe a bit at the Scottish accent. However, I find the real deal a bit hard to understand at times and I appreciate the ambience that comes from the accent while fully understanding what the narrator says.
