Story
Patrick Collins has spent years handling cases as a special agent for the Supernatural Operations Agency, even as his secret standing in the preternatural world has changed. He should have confessed to his role as co-leader of the New York City god pack when he and Jonothon de Vere took up the mantle months ago, but he didn’t. Now, that split loyalty will cost him at a time when he can least afford it.

Story
The devil you know is never the one you should trust. Special Agent Patrick Collins is dispatched to Chicago, chasing a lead on the Morrigan’s staff for the joint task force. Needing a cover for his presence in the Windy City, Patrick is ordered to investigate a politician running for mayor. In the lead up to Election Day, not everything is what it seems in a city where playing to win means appeasing the gods first and the electorate second. But Chicago brings its own set of problems outside the case: a standoffish local god pack, a missing immortal, and Patrick’s twin sister.

New York City is decked out for the holidays, and Special Agent Patrick Collins is looking forward to a reunion with his old team when he gets assigned a new case. A human child is missing, and the changeling left in her place causes a prominent witch family to demand justice from the fae. Story
You can’t bargain with death if you’ve already sold your soul. Special agent Patrick Collins has been reassigned by the supernatural operations agency to New York City. Navigating his new relationship with Jonothon de Vere, the werewolf he’s now soulbound to, is nothing compared to dealing with territorial disputes between the vampires and werecreatures who call the five boroughs home. But the delicate treaties that have kept the preternatural world in check are fraying at the edges, and the fallout is spilling into the mundane world.

It’s really hard to pretend like life is normal when you’re staring a monster in the eyes, though he’s both tempting and irritating in his human form. I put my days as a hunter behind me, unable to cope with the death and pain anymore, to become an upstanding citizen and for what? Nothing can go wrong with being in love with a demon and having a dragon familiar whose idea of a fun time is watching me plummet to the ground, right? Now that things have settled down, I’m hoping to finally get some peace and quiet to spend with Havoc. Instead, we get a guy who can walk the river of the dead, a centaur that seems allergic to pants, and an angel who has only one true love: himself. This is the group of misfits I’ve been given to protect the district. Sometimes I can’t help but wonder how we stopped an unbelievably powerful dark mage.

My whole life, I’ve been taught to despise shifters. So when I’m hired to track two escaped convicts, I’m suddenly thrust into the world I hate - or thought I did. Yet I’m inexplicably drawn to the alpha of the pack, whose land the convicts may be hiding on. He’s different than any shifter I've ever met - laidback and quick to laugh, caring, and protective. As secrets are revealed, I start to wonder if everything I’ve been raised to believe was a lie, though it may not matter, because it seems like someone wants us dead.

Publisher's Summary
Death is the last lover you will ever know.
SOA Special Agent Patrick Collins has lived a life full of lies, and it has finally caught up with him. There’s no denying his past any longer, not after giving up the truth to save himself from a murder charge. But truth alone can’t set Patrick free, and time is running out to stop the Dominion Sect from turning his father into a god.
Jonothon de Vere knows survival isn’t a guarantee, but he’s desperate to keep Patrick safe, even as hope slips through his fingers. With the future unknown, Jono will follow Patrick wherever he goes, even to Salem, where a family reunion reveals a bitter secret that was never going to stay buried.
With New York City under control of their god pack, Patrick and Jono must fall back on every alliance they’ve brokered to fill the front lines of a war coming directly to the city streets. The veil is always thinnest on Samhain, and what awaits them on the other side is the stuff of nightmares. For when it tears, all hell will break loose, and the gods will be summoned to face a reckoning the world isn’t ready for.
The stakes have never been higher, failure has never been so deadly, and the Fates have never been kind to heroes. Patrick knows that better than anyone - because everything has a price, every debt always comes due, and it’s finally time for Patrick to pay his.

FANTASTIC CONCLUSION TO AN EXCELLENT SERIES
Bravo, Hailey Turner. An excellent conclusion to a great series. I have been following this series from the beginning and I feel a pang of sadness that this has to end. Very well read by Gary Furlong who brought the characters to life. There were lots of tensed moments and action. Very good ending. Great series,

I love this series so much! I adore the characters and the world. I’m beyond sad to see the end of a series I love but it was such an amazing ending. There was action, heart breaking moments, g-ds to deal with, and of course Jono and Patrick. I love the interactions between Jono and Patrick so much. I couldn’t stop listening I needed to know how things would end for all the characters I loved and the ending made me really happy. I love this author so much and the narrator does an amazing job as always. Definitely going to be a series I relisten to!

Great story. Great narration.
Since this is the last book of the series, this is a bit of a review for the whole series.
The narration was amazing. I liked reading the first book of the series, but the narration added an extra bit of flavor to the story. I now search for books narrated by Gary Furlong.
Hailey Turner did an amazing job of keeping track of and managing a large cast of characters and a complex story. Epic fantasy series are often derailed by too many superfluous details and out of character moments. Turner did not fall into that trap. This series was well thought out.
I enjoyed getting to know Jono, Patrick, Sage, and everyone else. The characters care so well built that they feel like friends and neighbors. I would have liked a few more personal insights into their thought process, but that might have derailed the flow of the story considering how large the cast was.
Overall, the rhythm of the storytelling was good which allowed for an excellent narration. The use of never in awkward places bothered me sometimes. This might be a quirk in regional dialects, but I kept envisioning a fight scene where Jono never let go of Patrick.
Emotions were evoked in this series and especially this book. I did shed a few tears in this story. Patrick's self-sacrificing nature was challenging to deal with emotionally. Also, anyone who has been responsible for the care or protection of a sibling will understand why Patrick had such a difficult time with his mission to pay his soul debt.
I will definitely listen to this entire series again. The end was satisfying. In the tradition of myths, Greek and otherwise, Patrick's story was told, but that doesn't mean the story won't evolve with time....
I tend to hold epic fantasy stories to high standards. This series showed me that Hailey Turner has a talent for constructing an engaging, epic story in a timely fashion. I look forward to the next series.

This ending is emotional, beautiful and hard fought. Hailey Turners writing style paints such a clear picture. Between the author and the narrator, this is my favorite series. The narrators voice is smooth and he portrays each character so well, that the dialogue is easy to follow. There is never a dull moment and this entire series kept me hooked until the end.

This series has helped me through one of the most difficult times of my life. It let me escape to a world much like our own, but completely different at the same time. Turner has created a wonderful and differing cast of characters living in a breathable, living world. The plot kept me wanting more and more. I’m sad to see it end, but there’s end for everything.
