Publisher's Summary

The entire Perseid Collapse series in one box set: post-apocalyptic thriller action and suspense in five books!

The Jakarta Pandemic (Book 1)

Cases of a highly lethal virus appear in major cities around the globe. Most ignore the warning signs. Alex Fletcher, Iraq War veteran, has read the signs for years. With his family and home prepared to endure an extended period of seclusion, Alex thinks he's ready for the pandemic. He's not even close. The unstoppable H16N1 virus will be the least of his problems.

The Perseid Collapse (Book 2)

On August 19, 2019, an inconceivable attack against America's infrastructure will unleash a human darkness over the United States - with a vast appetite for chaos and violence. Alex Fletcher, former Marine, will wake to this brutally hostile landscape, thrown headfirst into an epic, impossibly grueling journey to save his family and friends.

Event Horizon (Book 3)

With Boston collapsing faster than Alex Fletcher predicted, his personal rescue mission deep into the heart of an increasingly unfamiliar city reaches a critical point. Pursued by a ruthless militia group and forced to navigate a treacherous landscape, he runs a gauntlet of grim decisions and impossible odds to reach perceived safety. Perceived, because nothing is safe in the world emerging after the "event".

Point of Crisis (Book 4)

In the aftermath of the brutal attack on his family compound, Alex Fletcher embraces his rapidly expanding role within the New England Regional Recovery Zone (RRZ). Fueled by a limitless drive to protect his family and a rekindled sense of duty, he enlists the reluctant aid of a local militia commander. As Captain Fletcher digs deeper into the government's plans, he starts to question the federal government's intentions - and ability to stabilize the situation in New England.

Dispatches (Book 5)

With the United States crippled, belligerent powers rise to fill the void overseas, catapulting already volatile regions into chaos and war - hastening a worldwide collapse. As spring arrives, Alex Fletcher faces a difficult choice. With their food supplies running low, Alex questions the feasibility of staying with the Thorntons and Walkers at their isolated lake community.

Good series

This has some well thought out characters. Also the narrator was also quite good.

The third book was a bit tough to follow for me though and is the only reason I’m giving it four stars instead of five. It felt like I’d missed part of the story somewhere. Maybe the author was referencing another novel in this world.

Absolutely Fantastic

This book series is very well researched, well written and performed.
It holds your attention throughout, and there appears to be no plot holes, frivolous storylines or over acting on the part of the writer or the narrator.

Would definitely recommend it to anyone interested in plausible scenarios for societal collapse.

great narrator, decent story, great value

Story is not breakneck speed, its more realistic, subtle, small scale. Worth the price. pandemics, emp scenarios.

Worth the money

I wasn’t sure at first if I would get into the story. But there was enough twists and turns to keep me on my toes. There were some aspects of the story I would have changed. But I can’t mention them here without being a spoiler. The narrator was excellent. Made it very easy to listen to. Overall, I’m glad I bought it. It was worth every penny.

I wanted to love it...

So, ok this series of books has a lot going for it plus some down sides as well. I'm a gun guy so I loved some of the detail the author puts into the series. He goes out of his way on a lot of detail that's great. Then, throws it all away with some silly hollywood stuff or seemingly random things. For example, his depiction of gun fights is pretty good! NVG use is described rather well. And the damage bullets do in general is good. And he never once said cordite!!! But....steel jackets? That was the Soviets man, not the U.S. lol. And that stuff went out of use decades ago! We DO use steel in our rounds but it's not every round and it's a steel tip or steel core penetrator round, not a general use steel jacket. Steel jackets are tough on (wait for it), steel barrels and wear out the lands and grooves of rifling far faster than normal rounds.

Ok gun geeking aside there's some other good and bad points here. The overall story is pretty good and I want to hear more about that. But, alas we only get a smattering of it which only leaves us wanting more. Instead, we get hours upon hours of a story that is basically Ward and June Cleaver Go to War. The author has the main protagonist described as a lot of things. A former Marine officer, a tender hearted husband and loving father, a guy who's past his prime but....still outperforms Marines and Army troops in their teens and twenties, a "gun guy" who doesn't apparently even know his own state's laws (he thinks suppressors are super duper illegal lol), and then....a guy who suffers from PTSD and mental breaks. So, Alex is crazy AF basically....just in a dapper sort of way I guess.

Without giving away plot spoilers, I'll just say that I wanted to really love this series and I do in fact enjoy parts of it. But, the author seems to focus far too much on character development while ignoring the overall story in the background that, has some rather important implications for the main cast. And, if said development was awesome I could even ignore the background story being cast aside. But, sadly it seems to get bogged down and a bit confused. There's a lot of stereotyping going on at times and some of it is from the 50's like having kids in their late teens....but having to talk to them about sex? Or treating them like their 4 when mom and dad start kissing in front of them "oh not in front of the kids Ward" <-- really??

So we're subjected to the author assassinating his own lead character meanwhile the story we NEED to know about (that which is going on in the world), and will dictate the future of our plucky heroes....is left gasping on the floor.

Steven, if you read this please give us more stories. But let poor confused Alex retire and write about his boy. Make him a billy badass Marine who...you know, is actually a Marine and is ok with it...and expand on the overall picture. I really want to see what your story is like globally!! You had me totally hooked there man! But the technical details....arg...so hit and miss! Overall they're great but c'mon man, you can do better. (Maine requires no concealed permit btw and you can buy a suppressor for any weapon you just need to register it and pay a $200 fee in most states...yes including Maine).

Sorry, said I wouldn't do that.

So, TL:DR
Overall story has great potential
Characters are an odd mashup of modern people with morals from the 50's so much that it's embarrassing to listen to.
Technical details are awesome until they're entirely incorrect and leave you boggling.
It's like listening to a B movie cast who are confused as to why they're actually in a great story.

Also, Mr. Farrell....I'm 47 and have never in my life herd someone say "hello" when referring to a helicopter instead of "he-low".

I hope there's more to this series. And I hope Mr. Konkoly expands on the story because I did very much enjoy what he was doing there.....just not so much the Fletchers :)

Really let down

If you are in search of a bad story, horrible dialogue and monotone narration, then you have found the right book. I love doomsday/post apocalyptic/dystopian books but, I could not stand this book or its terrible narration. I had high hopes with the positive reviews. I should have read deeper into them and taken the bad reviews to heart. The whole 11 hours that I gave it a chance felt like it had been written by a 10th grade kid that had just discovered his love of doomsday fiction. The generic characters and the unbelievable choices, that they made had me rolling my eyes so many times that I almost drove off the road. I find that sometimes, with the right narration, a mediocre book can be tolerable. This was not the case. Not even close. I would have rather listened to a vacuum cleaner read this story to me. In closing, I guess that I should have taken my credit and used it to buy 49 hours of listening to paint dry, I probably would have enjoyed it more.

Narration very boring....

What disappointed you about The Perseid Collapse Series Boxset?

I only got to chapter 4 and couldn't listen any more. The narrator's voice was not interesting, and my mind kept wandering. I had to keep replaying to understand what he was talking about. It's probably a very good story, just couldn't get through the narration. Had to exchange for something else.

How could the performance have been better?

Different narrator, or more interestingly flux of voice maybe?

Any additional comments?

Should have listened to the preview...if I'm paying for it, I want to actually enjoy it.

Who calls a Helicopter a HELLO

I had to cringe each time the reader pronounced Helo as Hello. (He-low).. Military slang for Helicopter.

More of a Conspiracy series.

I kept thinking there would be more meat, more how to. The last of the series just kinda got lost wandering around on different plots.

Everything is wrong with this book

* The narrator is one of the worst I've experienced. Monotone for the most part and just boring.

* Bad narration can usually be solved by speeding up the narration so you can listen to the exciting book, but the Book sucks too.

* No exciting protagonist

* There is this one kook prepper that makes me think of Jarjar Binks from Star Wars

* Terribly slow storyline. Makes me think the author is one of those guy's that milk a story into multiple books for the sake of profit.

Just don't waste your time. Consider yourself warned.
