Teddy Phillips never thought she would still be spending every day surrounded by toys at almost 30 years old. But working at a vintage toy store is pretty much all she has going on in her life after being unceremoniously dumped by her longtime boyfriend. The one joy that she has kept is her not-so-guilty pleasure: Everett’s Place, a local children’s show hosted by Everett St. James, a man whom Teddy finds very soothing...and, okay, cute. Teddy finds the courage to write to him, feeling slightly like one of the children who write to him on his show.

Graham is a detective inspector with London’s Metropolitan police force. He’s a career police officer, an educated, reserved, thoughtful, some might say, complex man. He has suffered tragedy in his life that serves to exaggerate his more introspective characteristics and, like many of us, has to look his demons in the eye from time to time and make tough choices. This box set contains the first four mysteries in this bestselling series.

Detective Lauren Pengelly has only been part of the Penzance police force for less than two years, but that’s enough time to know that the sleepy Cornish town doesn’t see many murders. So, when the bones of a woman with a hole in her skull are discovered behind a derelict cottage, she immediately assumes the worst. Rallying her team, Lauren is flooded with a strange sense of relief when the bones turn out to be almost twenty years old, not a recent victim. But it quickly turns to dread when she receives her second heart-stopping call of the day–a little girl, Isla, has been kidnapped.

The last thing her adoring public would expect is that she craves some peace and quiet. The humdrum hamlet of Walmsley Parva in the English countryside seems just the ticket. The premise is good. The reader is very good. The murder is intriguing. The relationships between the inhabitants of the village are a solid platform for the story. But the writing………so many, too many, way too many exchanges like this: "——“ Sioban said. "——" Anne said. "——“ Owen said. "——" Sioban said,
If there were only half of these dialogue sequences it would probably have cut the listening times by several hours. But because there were many promising elements I decided this was supposed to be a comedic devise and tried to carry on with the first book, It wasn't easy.
And then "The Yank" became a bigger part of the plot with his movie star good looks, straight teeth, gorgeous eyes, ad nauseum. About the fifth time this was repeated I couldn't continue. I threw in the towel, quit listening, gave up, and returned the book. I really wanted to find out who the murderer was but I couldn't continue. I threw in the towel, quit listening, gave up, and returned the book.
I listened longer than I wanted to
