À propos de cet audio

Preston & Child continue their #1 bestselling series featuring FBI Special Agent Pendergast and Constance Greene, as they take a final stand against New York’s deadliest serial killer: Pendergast’s own ancestor…and Constance’s greatest enemy.

A desperate bargain is broken…

Constance Greene confronts Manhattan’s most dangerous serial killer, Enoch Leng, bartering for her sister's life—but she is betrayed and turned away empty-handed, incandescent with rage.

A clever trap is set…

Unknown to Leng, Pendergast’s brother, Diogenes, appears unexpectedly, offering to help—for mysterious reasons of his own. Disguised as a cleric, Diogenes establishes himself in New York's notorious Five Points slum, manipulating events like a chess master, watching Leng’s every move…and awaiting his own chance to strike.

A vengeful angel will not be deterred…

Meanwhile, as Pendergast focuses on saving the unstable Constance in her fanatical quest for vengeance, she strikes out on her own: to rescue her beloved siblings from a tragic fate and take savage retribution on Leng. But Leng is one step ahead and has a surprise for them all…

I don’t want to leave a bad review… I think definitely it might help to listen to previous books? Couldn’t get into it.

Maybe need to listen to previous books

Love the way it’s all wrapped up. Hope for more Pendergast and the rest of the crew.

Awesome ending to this series

Weaving historical places and characters into the Pendergast world, this was well worth the time. Mays brings the characters to life, enjoy listening to his narration of Preston & Child's latest. Ending does not disappoint, In fact, listened to the last chapter twice.

I am sad to say that after the first hour, I stopped listening. The narrator is boring, sleepy, better suited to reading stuffy poetry than a sci-fi thriller. I have no idea what got into these writers to choose him. I have ordered the hard cover from my public library and am willing to wait my turn for it. I am an avid audiobook listener by the way and rarely stop listening to a book because of the narrator.

Disappointed

I was really disappointed by this one. I can’t really say why without spoilers . Let’s s just say I am saddened with the direction these last few books have taken, focusing on Constance rather than Pendergast and it now looks like that is going to continue into the future. Sigh. I don’t care for the Constance character. I know I’m in the minority but I truly believe she detracts from the books, adding a level of silliness that doesn’t seem necessary. I’m a true fan of this series. I was really hoping the authors would take this opportunity to remove her character once and for all, but they have chosen to go in a different direction. The story itself is good, lots of excitement, some nice bits of humor (Diogenes and Grandma Moses!) but I just want the old Pendergast back. Honestly I have written and deleted a couple of versions of this review. I don’t want to deter anyone from reading the books. They are all good fun and well written, I just don’t like it when writers mess up a good character.I hope don’t sound too much like Annie Wilkes from Misery. I won’t say I’m done with the series because: A/ nobody cares, and B/ I will probably read the next one, albeit with a strong sense of trepidation.

Ambivalence reigns!
