Publisher's Summary

An Officio Assassinorum story.

On the Knight World of Dominion, a Vindicare and a Callidus Assassin are tasked with eliminating a seditious leader and safely steering a pro-Imperial candidate to the throne.

Listen to it because....

Kingmaker shows the fascinating relationship between two very different temples of the Assassinorum, as two agents navigate the complex social hierarchy of a Knight World. The stakes are high and the pressure is on, for an Imperial war effort hinges on them executing their duty before disaster strikes.

The story:

The Officio Assassinorum safeguards the future of humanity. Its agents are the bloody-handed, secret saviours of the Imperium, killers charged with achieving the impossible...and Vindicare assassin Absolom Raithe has just been handed the most difficult assignment of his career.

The Knight World of Dominion is on the verge of seceding from the Imperium, its court riven by factionalism and ruled by an increasingly unhinged monarch. With the aid of the shapeshifting Callidus assassin Sycorax, Raithe must remove the king from his throne—and safely steer a pro-Imperial candidate to victory through the brutal succession crisis that will inevitably ensue. His team will need to infiltrate a world steeped in chivalric codes, where every move risks discovery and every threat pilots an adamantine monster...for if the assassins fail, and Dominion falls, the entire sector will be plunged into darkness.

Good genre work

Enjoyed this one. I am invested in the universe so it probably gets an extra star for that. Cold-war vibes mixed with neofuedalism. It's a fun book for Warhammer fans and coherent/well written enough that non fans can probably enjoy too, though some of it may get lost I. the weeds. Felt less like I was being Marketed to compared to other 40k books

40k at its best

As intimate as a knife to the throat. As epic as the shot heard around the world. Space assassins and killer robots wrapped in court intrigue. What else can you ask for ?Narrator was great too. Fantastic work.

Knights and Assassins. A small corner refreshment.

A tale full of plot and intrigue, twists and turn. A tale of assassins from three different factions of the Officio Assassinorum that must work together to kill a monarch and prevent the Knight world of Dominion from secession.

Another great insight of both the spies and their order, and the Knights of Dominion, whose tradition breeds mistrust, bloodshed and allegiances between two imperial houses.

The setting takes place at the start of the Indomitus crusade where every world, allies and oathsworn, must muster their forces for war in Guilliman's support. That couldn't be said for the world of Dominion.

The direction is simply straightforward at early start, but it gets more complex with every chapter, especially of the characters as the assassins headed for Dominion. If it was in a hard copy, you can point out who the characters are and their purpose, but in an audio format... it is a pain. Some may need to repeat certain chapters or write down notes to simply understand everything about the characters.

The narrator, Gareth Armstrong, is good at what he do. His control of tone and expression is admirable and his speaking clearly able to listen. However, there are cases that he sounded like Wall-E having sex with a Speak and Spell. Surely from the beginning of the listen, but twice or more that distinction seemed almost unnoticeable.

In conclusion, it is a good read, offers more insist both assassins and knights and their political stance and overall noteworthy action scenes. What I admire the story the most are the assassins, who they must build bonds at one another and their chemistry is enjoyable to listen to.

Excellent characters and story

This was an incredible story with many twists and turns ! R.R did an incredible job at even making the mission focused assassins even have interesting personalities and motivations. Though on the longer side the books pacing is excellent and the world build is superb a good book to pick up.
