Publisher's Summary

From #1 New York Times bestselling author Sylvia Day comes the first novel in the Crossfire series - a provocative masterstroke of abandon and obsession that redefined the meaning of desire, and became a global phenomenon.

Gideon Cross came into my life like lightning in the darkness...

He was beautiful and brilliant, jagged and white-hot. I was drawn to him as I’d never been to anything or anyone in my life. I craved his touch like a drug, even knowing it would weaken me. I was flawed and damaged, and he opened those cracks in me so easily...

Gideon knew. He had demons of his own. And we would become the mirrors that reflected each other’s most private wounds...and desires.

The bonds of his love transformed me, even as I prayed that the torment of our pasts didn’t tear us apart...

Healthier version of 50 shades

LOTS of sex but not much else. Two dysfunctional people holding onto each other for survival. The sex was repetitive and even got boring. I have wanted to read this for years and really wanted to like it. Narrator was too upbeat for such a painful story. Sorry.

I really enjoyed this book.

I really think I will listen to this one again. I like the way it was written. It swept me away from real life and my house has never looked better. 😜

Very rapey, full of red flags, not hot

I made it to chapter 4 before giving up on this. The book reinforces really bad and unrealistic bdsm tropes. The guy is creepy, stalkery, and doesn't take no for an answer. He uses his position of power to obtain the main character's private information and to hire her boss for a job so he can get close to her. He locks her in a room with him after she has clearly and repeatedly said no to his sexual advances. It's not a turn on. It's just gross. I'm going to try to find a book about people who are both actually interested in entering into bdsm type sexual experiences. This is not that.

It took a hot second to get through

first and foremost - its not a bad book... but it was recommended to me by a friend, its just not my kind of read. something about a main character being overbearing and controlling just isn't my thing.

Unnatural interactions but great sex scenes

The sex scenes were great, but most of the other interactions felt unnatural. I kept asking myself why they liked each other. Also, make sure you like a possessive/pushy kind of guy if you're gonna listen. I don't and parts were cringy to me. I finished it but almost stopped it multiple times.

This book was beyond amazing for me!

I listened to the Fifty Shades trilogy twice back to back. And I loved every second of it. Then I went into an emotional detox and started listening to paranormal romances for a few weeks. Just when I was starting to miss fifty a little, Bared to you came out promising to be a substitute for FSoG. It was not... But I must clarify that I really liked both books. Enough about fifty.

Bared to You is the story of Eva and Gideon, two very beautiful, filthy rich people that fall madly in love. The thing is they are kind of crazy, and not the fun kinda crazy, but the you'll-Need-therapy-the-rest-of-your-life kind of crazy. They have both been victims of sexual abuse when kids and they don't really know how to have a normal happy healthy relationship. The interesting thing is that their sexual abuse made them a little cookoo but did not affect their libido of sexual performance. At. All. Hot chemistry!

Bring in secondary stories about the bi-sexual, also insane but ridiculously gorgeous roommate that Eva has (Cary). Eva's controlling mother and Gideon's very misterious family and you have a story that is very interesting, unpredictable and did I mention HOT!
If you loved fifty and are looking for another version of the story, please note that this is different, more psychological and intense. No BDSM at all.

Now to the merits as an audiobook: this is fifty shades better. Jill Redfield did an amazing job with all the voices. The emotions she brought to the narration were just flawless. Distinct voices for each characters and exellent tones for the love scenes. I was very surprised to see that this is the only audiobook available that she has narrated. I definitely look forward to more books narrated by her.

Can't wait for the next book: Reflected in You...

cheesy! don't get all the great reviews.

Any additional comments?

I like a sex driven book as much as the next person, but this book was just ridiculous and so cheesy! I purchased it based on all of the stellar reviews, but it had me laughing at it during some points. It felt like it was written by an old-fashioned person's idea of what a relationship like that would be like, what talking dirty sounds like, etc... For me, the thing that makes a book like this enjoyable is when the relationship is the foundation and the sex/conflict is more secondary and used to further that relationship. But every time there was an issue, Gideon would respond with, "you need to get laid." Like....all the time. And there wasn't very much dialogue to establish their relationship in the first place. Plus, it was the same descriptive scene over and over and over...and over again. Kinda silly.

I didn't buy into it.

Jill Redfields narration was a mixed bag. She was pretty good as Ava, but whenever she was channeling Gideon, she sounded like Buffalo Bill in Silence of the Lambs. ha ha! I kept expecting her to say, "Precious...! Preeeecious!" It was pretty bad and spot on. It had me laughing.

TOUCHING & EMOTIONAL ROLLERCOASTER OF PASSION

Firstly, I cannot compare this awesome listen to FSOG as I haven't yet listened to the raved over book but all I can do is review this one.

This book totally consumed me as it unfolded to tell the heart renching story of two previously sexually abused people slowly learning to trust in each other, letting go of their pasts and eventually love again. I fell in love with Gideon not because he was handsome, filthy rich, successful at everything he did but because he was sooo vulnerable, caring and thoughtful when it came to Eva. He thought his life was just fine and wanted for nothing....... until he met her eyes - then sparks flew and they very quickly turned into embers which ignited into burning hot flames of passion filled pages.

Good plot, great primary and secondary characters and lots of 'hot and heavy' all go into the mix to create a well written and well narrated exceptional listen.

Worth a credit? DEFINATELY, TOTALLY and ABSOLUTELY YES.

Equivilent to a "chick Flix"

I found this novel totally for the late teens to early twenties. Those who are still exploring sexuality or are are new to the whole thing. I had to listen in slabs of half an hour or so as the shallowness really got to me. But seeing I paid for it I gritted my teath.

Move over Christian...Helloooooooooo Gideon!!

Though there are many similarities between FSOG and this book, Sylvia Day knows how to spin a tale and has the editors to prove it. Ladies and gentlemen not one "OH MY" in the entire book. Both characters have their own baggage of past monsters they need to deal with and the story keeps you glued to the book to uncover their secrets. I literally couldn't put the I-pod down. While I was interested in FSOG I was in a trance with this book. I felt like a voyeur watching the weave of these to lives bind and build. I love strong male characters. I often thought "how would I react if a man like Gideon talked to me like that?" My normal response to any man with that rap would be me telling him to go pound sand, however with Gideon I would have lost my ever lovin mind as Eva did.

Jill Redfield did an excellent job at narration. Audible DO NOT CHANGE NARRATORS!!

I look forward to the next in the Crossfire series. Again.....Audible sign what ever contracts, pay off your people, do what you need to do to get the second book available on release day.

OMG!! Not just hot but great story to boot!!

I will admit have not listened to the Fifty Shades of Gray series yet since the review on the narrator were not good. With that said I must say this book was really good. The narrator was very good. I would have liked her male voice of the main character to be a little stronger but she was still great. The story was not totally overshadowed by the sex but an integral part of the story itself. I was totally enthralled in the book and had a hard time stopping the book. I probably could have listened to the book in one full day.

I am totally looking forward to the continuation of this series. Totally credit worthy!!

Is there such thing as too much sex?

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

No. I don't know anyone that would be comfortable sitting through THAT much sex.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

THAT'S IT?!? What about the ex, does he drop her? What were the nightmares about? What happens to the roommate and Cross's brother?

Which scene was your favorite?

Any part that didn't have to do with constant bickering then fucking, bickering then fucking, bickering then fucking. Too much bickering then fucking! I wish there a little more to the story.

Was Bared to You worth the listening time?

Yeah I guess so. Although there was alot of eye rolling and wanting to throw my phone out the window while driving... "Oh yay they're bickering again... aaaand now fucking."

Any additional comments?

I wish the author had went more into detail on Cross's nightmares and his past. The social gatherings were entertaining.I feel like they should have included more about the krav maga or left it out entirely. Ava was a little too high maintenance and whiny.

STOP!! This IS what you are looking for!

If you are a Fifty Shades fan then you found your next fix. In fact, you have found a better fix. One that Fifty could not provide! Why? Well, I am always happy for someone in the Minor Leagues to step up and hit a home run out of the park, but nothing is as beautiful as watching the pro's do it.

Even if your not a Fifty's fan you may prefer that you never read Fifty and just found these books instead... how do I know? I don't know you, so I don't know. :)

At first I was tired of the roller coaster of emotions from the main character Ava that I was going to strangle her myself. But as I settled into the book I soon realized where the author was taking me and it was a delicious ride for sure.

Jill Redfield narrating is AMAZING! Really do I need to say more if she is AMAZING?
Perfection, nailed it, touchdown, home run, SCORE!! She made this book a thrill to listen too and at times had me really blushing.

This was my first experience with Sylvia Day's books and I am a fan. I can't wait for the final book of this series but I am also going to check out her other books and pray they are as thrilling as this.

Happy Reading! :))

Bared to you

After listening to both authors work, E L James and Sylvia Day, it is uncanny how similar there books are. Great work by Sylvia Day with just a bit more modesty thrown in. I am very happy there are more books to come and hoping more than 3 as I feel if the saga is continued longer it will out run Fifty shades by miles. Sylvia Day appeals to me more as she has such a smooth natural way when telling the love making, her way of writing doesn't embarrass me at all with the hot and spicy sex.. Looking forward to the rest of this series and will be grabbing it as soon as the next book is released! Thanks Sylvia :)

Nice love story

I really loved the story and it got me hungry for more!!
The performance was awesome, it really helped to dive into the universe of the book.
