Publisher's Summary

From New York Times best-selling author Meghan March comes a story of untold truths and one man’s redemption in the Dirty Mafia Duet - available in audio first!

Every family has a black sheep. In the infamous Casso crime family, that black sheep is me - Cannon Freeman.

Except I’m not a free man. I’ve never been free. Not since the day I was born. I owe my loyalty to my father, Dominic Casso, even if he won’t publicly acknowledge me as his blood.

I’ve never had a reason to go against his wishes...until I met her.

Drew Carson turned my world upside when she walked into my club looking for a job.

Now, my honor and my life are on the line.

Going against my father’s wishes might buy me a bullet straight from his gun, but black sheep or not, it’s time to make my stand.

She's worth the fallout.

I INHALED EVERY SINGLE EXCITING SECOND

I knew it was going to be great, I knew it was going to be perfectly narrated, I knew it was going to end on a thrilling cliffhanger and I knew White Knight (book 2) wouldn’t be out for a while.. but still I listened. That’s the power this author and these two narrators have over my willpower because I couldn’t resist their lure. It’s a gripping suspenseful Mafia romance with sizzling chemistry and a splash of sex.. and it won’t be a hardship listening to it again in a month or two.

Worth a credit? Yes I would’ve gladly used a credit on this climactic listen.. but it’s free on Audible’s Escape Package - and that folks is the cherry on top.

This book isn’t complete

This is half a book. It ends on a cliffhanger that is frustrating. It’s like a weekly soap opera. The character development is fine but both main characters aren’t that smart.

Great, captivating read! I want more!

WHEW BOY! I LOOOOOOOOOOOVED this book! I enjoyed the narrators letting the listeners FEEL this story. I really enjoyed how pieces of this story overlapped other books of Meghan's. And if you've never read other books, you just wouldn't know that the hidden gems are there. But I was very quickly lost in Cannon's and Drew's story. I liked how Meghan drops pieces of their histories in and gives the reader, just a little but you know there's more to it. I liked Drew's tenacity and the way she went after what she wanted. What she didn't expect was the full Cannon effect. The delicious chemistry between them and the way in which their relationship evolved was something neither of them expected. I was lost in their journey and HOLY BOMBSHELL.... Meghan brought it! I so can't wait for the next book. Be sure not to let this audio book pass you by!

Cannon Freeman is the Black Sheep of the family.

First of all, Andi Arndt and Sebastian York are the reason that I chose to listen to this! They're always so good in everything that they narrate, and they were once again flawless in this story.

This was my first Meghan March story and I loved the whole "crime family" feel to it. Cannon and Drew had intense chemistry from the beginning and their romance progressed quickly. Unlike many other listeners, the steamy romance was not my favorite part of the story; I was most interested what Drew was up to with her disguises and secrets, and I was curious about out how Cannon would react, knowing that he had been vulnerable and shared parts of his past with her. Throughout the whole story, I was just waiting for the big moment, and that feeling was both tortuous and delicious.

And then BOOM, the end! Oh lord, what a cliffhanger!!

I didn't realize when I started this was that Ms. March's books are so very interconnected! I noticed it when I was listening and looking at her website. While I didn't have any trouble following the story at all, it seems like I may have had a more full experience here if I had already met Cannon from previous stories. I still need to continue with the next installment though, because that cliffhanger was absolutely killer.

3.5 Stars

I read and listen to a lot of books, and I average about 150 a year. So unless it stands out to me, I don't remember details years later. This book revolves around Cannon who was introduced in the Diry Billionaire series. He is Creighton's BFF. I listened to the Dirty Billionaire series back in 2017 and didn't remember any of it. I only know Cannon was Creighton's BFF because of snippets from this story. This was driving me bonkers because what happens between Creighton and Cannon is referred to a lot and I don't remember it. This bothered me so much that I spent most of the audiobook first trying to remember which book Creighton was from then trying to remember what happened. It was extremely distracting. I will note that I went back and read my review on Dirty Together, which said:

"The one issue I had with Dirty Together was the "shocking" twist with Crey's father. It just felt forced and weird. But we will see if she does anything with it."

I guess March finally did something with it. I wish there hadn't been so much of a lag time between books. I think I would have appreciated this one more if I was fresh off Dirty Billionaire. I did see the there is a reading order on March's website: https://meghanmarch.com/reading-order/ This may be my next reading/audiobook project.

Overall, this is a sexy ready in March's style, which I love. I am curious to see what happens next. I am giving Black Sheep 3.5 Boundless Stars.

3.5 stars- Never quite caught fire for me

I’ve read a lot of this author’s works, but none recently. When I got the chance to listen and review Black Sheep- which happened to feature two of my favorite narrators- I was hoping to get a great suspenseful story with strong characters. In many ways, I got just that.

Black Sheep is a standalone, although it does have a few ties to other books and series by the author, but it’s also a cliffhanger, so be prepared to need book two for the couple’s full story. Cannon and Drew are similar in many ways- strong, independent people who have lost those they loved the most. I liked this couple in theory, the problem was I didn’t get as much of that palpable connection developing as I wanted. Every time it seemed to deepen below the surface attraction or that indescribable but undeniable draw present in many romances, the mafia plotline or Drew and Cannon’s physical relationship would overshadow things and it ended with me feeling less invested in the couple than I wanted.

Additionally, despite having solid writing and great narration I was happy to listen to, Black Sheep didn’t really stand out from the crowd. Cannon is an alpha hero to the max- powerful but also misunderstood by many around him, and Drew is the smart, dedicated reporter who is hoping to take Cannon and his father down. It quickly became apparent that since this trope is no longer my happy place, the lack of an innovative, memorable plot didn’t have me eager to dive into the second book. All that said, I think plenty of readers will love this sexy couple and devour the series, just turns out for me the standard alpha hero isn’t my cup of tea anymore.
