About this listen
Comedy superstar Mike Myers writes from the (true patriot) heart about his 53-year relationship with his beloved Canada. Mike Myers is a world-renowned actor, director and writer and the man behind some of the most memorable comic characters of our time. But, as he says, "No description of me is truly complete without saying I'm a Canadian". He has often winked and nodded to Canada in his outrageously accomplished body of work, but now he turns the spotlight full-beam on his homeland.
His hilarious and heartfelt new book is part memoir, part history, and pure entertainment. It is Mike Myers' funny and thoughtful analysis of what makes Canada Canada and Canadians Canadians and what being Canadian has always meant to him. His relationship with his home and native land continues to deepen and grow, he says. In fact American friends have actually accused him of enjoying being Canadian - and he's happy to plead guilty as charged.
A true patriot who happens to be an expatriate, Myers is in a unique position to explore Canada from within and without. With this, his first book, Mike brings his love for Canada to the fore at a time when the country is once again looking ahead with hope and national pride. Canada is a wholly subjective account of Mike's Canadian experience. Mike writes, "Some might say, 'Why didn't you include this or that?' I say there are 35 million stories waiting to be told in this country, and my book is only one of them."

Story
The first story Selma Blair Beitner ever heard about herself is that she was a mean, mean baby. With her mouth pulled in a perpetual snarl and a head so furry it had to be rubbed to make way for her forehead, Selma spent years living up to her terrible reputation: biting her sisters, lying spontaneously, getting drunk from Passover wine at the age of seven, and behaving dramatically so that she would be the center of attention. In a memoir that is as wildly funny as it is emotionally shattering, Blair tells the captivating story of growing up and finding her truth.

Story
In the late 19th century, demand for fur was in sharp decline. This could have spelled economic disaster for the venerable Hudson's Bay Company. But an idea emerged in political and business circles in Ottawa and Montreal to connect the disparate British colonies into a single entity that would stretch from the Atlantic to the Pacific. With over 3,000 kilometers of track, much of it driven through wildly inhospitable terrain, the CPR would be the longest railroad in the world and the most difficult to build. Its construction was the defining event of its era.

At school, classmates called him Indian, despite his parents' Irish-Quebecois background. Rick Mercer can always be relied on to provoke a strong reaction - but what he said one fall day in 2017 truly shocked Canada. In a rant posted on social media, the great Canadian satirist announced loud and clear that the 15th season of the Rick Mercer Report - the nation's best-watched and best-loved comedy show - would be the last. This volume brings together never-before-published rants from the last five seasons of the show, plus a selection of the very best rants from earlier years.

Story
The Second World War shaped modern Canada. It led to the country's emergence as a middle power on the world stage; the rise of the welfare state; industrialization, urbanization, and population growth. After the war, Canada increasingly turned toward the United States in matters of trade, security, and popular culture, which then sparked a desire to strengthen Canadian nationalism from the threat of American hegemony. The Fight for History examines how Canadians framed and reframed the war experience over time.

Editorial Review
Most people know Myers from his leading roles in Austin Powers and Shrek. But in this audiobook, you’ll meet him as a true Canadian patriot born and raised in Scarborough, Ontario, and a die-hard Maple Leaf fan.
With his stars engraved on Canada’s Walk of Fame in Toronto and the Hollywood Walk of Fame, Myers is a household name in his beloved Canada and the US. Having lived in both, Myers takes you through the many differences between our two North American countries, with substantial doses of wit and humour thrown in. In a CBC interview, he recalls, “there’s nobody more Canadian than a Canadian who no longer lives in Canada.” In his audiobook debut, he proves exactly that.
Offering his takes on Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Canadian history, ice hockey and our strong accents, the Emmy Award-winning actor leaves no stone of the Canadian experience unturned in this part memoir, part cultural journey
Narrated by Myers, Canada is an absolute must-listen for every Canadian and anyone else who would like a lighthearted, whimsical look at our nation and its history and culture.

Mike Myers is a National Treasure
A funny and informative read about Canada as well as Myers' career and how Canada helped shape it. Being around a similar age to him, I was reminded of growing up at a great time in history when Canada had a much stronger national identity within its borders than it does now. It made me both nostalgic and hopeful. Canada is an amazing country and Myers tells you why. I would say that 5 hours wasn't long enough but that's only because I was enjoying it so much.

Loved the first three quarters
I enjoyed a lot, hearing about him growing up in the generation before my own and hearing about how Toronto was as Canada was picking itself up. Mike has a very very obvious bias toward the Liberal party (because it assisted artists like himself, something the average tax payer didn't benefit from.) Mike spoke way too much on Canada after he moved, as if he understood enough of what happened in his absence after moving.
