About this listen

Comedy superstar Mike Myers writes from the (true patriot) heart about his 53-year relationship with his beloved Canada. Mike Myers is a world-renowned actor, director and writer and the man behind some of the most memorable comic characters of our time. But, as he says, "No description of me is truly complete without saying I'm a Canadian". He has often winked and nodded to Canada in his outrageously accomplished body of work, but now he turns the spotlight full-beam on his homeland.

His hilarious and heartfelt new book is part memoir, part history, and pure entertainment. It is Mike Myers' funny and thoughtful analysis of what makes Canada Canada and Canadians Canadians and what being Canadian has always meant to him. His relationship with his home and native land continues to deepen and grow, he says. In fact American friends have actually accused him of enjoying being Canadian - and he's happy to plead guilty as charged.

A true patriot who happens to be an expatriate, Myers is in a unique position to explore Canada from within and without. With this, his first book, Mike brings his love for Canada to the fore at a time when the country is once again looking ahead with hope and national pride. Canada is a wholly subjective account of Mike's Canadian experience. Mike writes, "Some might say, 'Why didn't you include this or that?' I say there are 35 million stories waiting to be told in this country, and my book is only one of them."

Editorial Review

Why do we Canadians do and say certain things? What makes us different from the rest? Hit play and get it from the source in actor and comedian Mike Myers’ funny and insightful love letter audiobook to his home country, Canada.

Most people know Myers from his leading roles in Austin Powers and Shrek. But in this audiobook, you’ll meet him as a true Canadian patriot born and raised in Scarborough, Ontario, and a die-hard Maple Leaf fan.

With his stars engraved on Canada’s Walk of Fame in Toronto and the Hollywood Walk of Fame, Myers is a household name in his beloved Canada and the US. Having lived in both, Myers takes you through the many differences between our two North American countries, with substantial doses of wit and humour thrown in. In a CBC interview, he recalls, “there’s nobody more Canadian than a Canadian who no longer lives in Canada.” In his audiobook debut, he proves exactly that.

Offering his takes on Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Canadian history, ice hockey and our strong accents, the Emmy Award-winning actor leaves no stone of the Canadian experience unturned in this part memoir, part cultural journey

Narrated by Myers, Canada is an absolute must-listen for every Canadian and anyone else who would like a lighthearted, whimsical look at our nation and its history and culture.

I'm a huge fan of Mike Myers. I grew up on his comedy, watching Wayne's World, and Austin Powers as a kid. I was always proud that he was a fellow Canuck. I knew as I purchased this book, that I would enjoy it

I've been struggling with my relationship to Canada as an first nations woman in a remote community. Canada is not always kind to the first Nations people here, but this book reminded me of all things that I love about Canada, and the vastly diverse population that calls this place home. This book was incredibly relatable, and it was nice to see another side to a comedian I've grown up worshipping. I couldn't really relate to the Toronto-specific anecdotes, as I'm from just west of "None-of-it", but so much of the stories about street hockey and the Canadian accent and slang reminded me that even thousands of kilometers away, there are little Canucks out there experiencing the same Canadian winter fun we all did ❤️

Will definitely be a repeat listen in my library, and have already recommended it to three people so far!

I loved this more than I expected.

You're portrayal of Canada made me cry a few times. It was the first I've cried since my Father died late March 2020. Needless to say... he was not Walter Gretzky or your Father's calibre. This book tugged at my Canadian 'heart strings' a few times and made me laugh and smile.

Thank you Mike Myers!

having moved to Canada in 2016, it is nice to have a bit more background on the country in which I now live. I'll probably give this several more listens, since I may want to apply for citizenship at some point. there are many historical facts mentioned, which will likely be useful.

A clearer picture of Mike and Canada

As an American who resides in Canada for almost 40 years now...I too grew up and took flight here in Canada during the time period Mike reminiscences of in this awesome, Canadian content, audio book! Thank you Mike for the nostalgic and heartfelt recant of those years and of the many reasons i remained in Canada, married Canadian and have Canadian descendants of my own now....quite proudly! We came to Canada back in 1971 after my southern belle, from Virginia, mama met and married a Canadian WWII Veteran (my Step-Dad) who began to miss his homeland of Canada. I will never forget when he told us where we were moving to. He said “Canada...God’s Country”.

I am certainly a patriotic American with many family and friends to visit when I go back to my incredible, historic and arts cultured hometown...The City of Brotherly Love....home to the Eagles and Phillies.

However, my StepDad was right! Canada IS truly God’s Country
...to me too now!

I am so very grateful that he brought us here to Canada for many many reasons! Many of which Mike recounts in his truly proud Canadian and hilarious way.

Bravo Mike!
...an awesome listen and definitely something I will share about with many!

Canada, eh?

I'm from Scarborough and the same age as Mike Myers. Many of his memories were the same as mine, except I don't recall such hero worshipping of Pierre Trudeau or Justin for that matter being so obvious in my neck of the woods, nd I consider myself a left leaning Conservative/right leaning Liberal. Overall a good listen and true on many other of his accounts and observations.

We don't say 'Eh' that much

Well done Mike Myers, well done.
I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this book. I appreciated the knowledge & depth that you illustrated in Canadian history & in sharing your own history. I am proud to be Canadian everyday but a little more proud knowing that you are from Canada too & love it.
If you’re debating getting this book- just do it. You won’t regret listening to the witty & heart warming stories.

Loved it!

I didn’t know what to expect, but this was surprisingly thoughtful, insightful, and quietly funny. I’m not a fan per se, but I am Canadian, and grew up around the same time and place as Mike. This probably made the book even more enjoyable.

Thoughtful
