Story
Rick Mercer can always be relied on to provoke a strong reaction - but what he said one fall day in 2017 truly shocked Canada. In a rant posted on social media, the great Canadian satirist announced loud and clear that the 15th season of the Rick Mercer Report - the nation's best-watched and best-loved comedy show - would be the last. This volume brings together never-before-published rants from the last five seasons of the show, plus a selection of the very best rants from earlier years.

Story
I’ve been in this life for 50 years, been trying to work out its riddle for 42, and been keeping diaries of clues to that riddle for the last 35. Notes about successes and failures, joys and sorrows, things that made me marvel, and things that made me laugh out loud. How to be fair. How to have less stress. How to have fun. How to hurt people less. How to get hurt less. How to be a good man. How to have meaning in life. How to be more me.

Publisher's Summary
Comedy superstar Mike Myers writes from the (true patriot) heart about his 53-year relationship with his beloved Canada. Mike Myers is a world-renowned actor, director and writer and the man behind some of the most memorable comic characters of our time. But, as he says, "No description of me is truly complete without saying I'm a Canadian". He has often winked and nodded to Canada in his outrageously accomplished body of work, but now he turns the spotlight full-beam on his homeland.
His hilarious and heartfelt new book is part memoir, part history, and pure entertainment. It is Mike Myers' funny and thoughtful analysis of what makes Canada Canada and Canadians Canadians and what being Canadian has always meant to him. His relationship with his home and native land continues to deepen and grow, he says. In fact American friends have actually accused him of enjoying being Canadian - and he's happy to plead guilty as charged.
A true patriot who happens to be an expatriate, Myers is in a unique position to explore Canada from within and without. With this, his first book, Mike brings his love for Canada to the fore at a time when the country is once again looking ahead with hope and national pride. Canada is a wholly subjective account of Mike's Canadian experience. Mike writes, "Some might say, 'Why didn't you include this or that?' I say there are 35 million stories waiting to be told in this country, and my book is only one of them."

Love Mike Myers but...
I don’t understand how this seemingly upbeat Canadian can boast the Americans and put down Canadians so much in a book named Canada.
It might be because we’re a year into the pandemic and my patients for the ‘Amazing Americans concept’ has come to an abrupt end (they’re not fairing too well right now) but 45 minutes into this book and I just can’t keep going.
I love Mike Myers but he’s been in the US too long, I have never known one person who admires the Americans this much (and I don’t live under a rock).
So with my venting done, listen to the book and judge for yourself.

Good thing it was free.
I thought this would be something of a memoir and, therefore, at least slightly interesting. No. This is Mike Myers' attempt at a "fun" history of Canada and why Canadians are the way we are. It's ironic that he thinks he knows Canada so well when he moved to the States in 1983. It's a 4 D listen. Dull dull dull and don't bother.

Is this a love letter to the Liberal Party?
Overall it was a good recap of his life, with a few funny stories. His idea is that Canada lacked a "mission statement" and that Pierre Trudeau was attempting to give Canada one. He believe us Canadians lacked an identity. At the end of the book he goes on quite a rant about how terrible Stephen Harper was and how Justin Trudeau is such a saint and gave Canadians a mission statement and identity (laughable!) What started out as a nice story of his life ended as a political advertisement for the Liberal Party.

Meh, disappointing
The title and premise of the book are misleading. Less about Canada than about comparing Canada to the USA. Amusing at times but Myers is definitely no longer a Canadian after emigrating south 30-odd years ago and most of his observations about Canada and our people are very American-centric. At best Toronto-centric, which is hardly representative of this diverse nation. I found myself frequently saying out loud "That isn't true!" He talks about Canadians like we're all a bunch of innocent well-mannered idiots. He explains basic Canadian facts as if to a moron (and makes a few errors) and yet the huge majority of his readers will be Canadians, as he admits many times through the book how patently uninterested Americans are in Canada. He seems to be quite enamored with his Canadian heritage though, without realizing how very American he has become. It was interesting to learn how much of the American comedy industry stemmed from talent funded by Canadian taxpayers.

An American telling Canadians how to live
Mike Myers has not lived in Canada for over 20 years, maybe longer. Before this book I would have definitely counted myself as a Mike Myers fan. First the only people what will read a book called Canada is Canadians. He starts off telling us what is wrong with us. Then goes on to say how Canadians have this big inferiority complex. Torontonians have that complex, and they feel they are superior to the rest of Canada so all Canadians must have that complex. I lived outside of Canada for 17 years and came back for the last 15 and what he is saying is definitely wrong. His prejudice comes out in things like he is surprised to see a good rendition of a musical in Saskatoon. Then he finishes up by telling Canadians to vote for a criminal, and to live under a regime that he himself refuses to live under. Over all this book isn't funny and is equal parts outdated/incorrect views of this country, reminiscences of his youth and propaganda. Save your money. I had this in my queue too long to return in so I had to listen to it, I wish I could get my money back. I would never say American go home, but I would say Mike Myers go home, and it isn't here.

this book deserves more than five stars
The only thing I knew about Canada before reading this book is that it has beautiful landscapes and that it's on my bucket list of places to visit. He is so right, No one in the states knows much about Canada. I learned so much about Canada by reading this book. but I am glad that I read this book before reading another book about Canada because I feel like I was able to see the real Canada and not just a tourist spot. It was made so much better by having the author read the book. I have always loved Mike Meyers, the actor, and it was amazing to meet Mike Meyers, the person. I like them both equally as much. Thank you Mike for a wonderfully written book.

Very personal and relatable
What did you like best about this story?
It struck so many chords with me as a fellow Canadian who grew up in southern Ontario. It was laugh out loud funny in many spots. It was a trip through my life and experiences as a Canadian.
What about Mike Myers’s performance did you like?
Completely authentic from the heart.
Any additional comments?
We all need to be able to laugh at ourselves and that is certainly a requirement if you're a Canadian listening to this book. Mike is unabashedly, unapologetically Canadian though and that is fantastic. Rock on Mike!

Thoughtful and perfect for any X-Pat from Canada
Mike seemed a little reserved and possibly a little emotional / hurt by how Canada has treated him, however he came across as completely honest and heart felt. I realized as he told his story how close his and my upbringing were and we could have easily been the same kid growing up in Canada. I miss home, but I too moved for work, career and his story is the story of many who have grown up a Canadian of the 60s and 70's ... Thanks Mr. Meyers

It's Mike, what can you say eh?
I wish it was longer and kept looking ahead to see that sadly, the end of the book was near. It's inspiring to hear someone's story and realize that a couple changes of events in their life could have altered their outcome in such a large way. I'm sure his determination and talent would have brought him into everyone's lives anyway sooner or later. I was curious to hear stories of working with Eddie Murphy (since he was an early SNL fan) and the shenanigans that went on. I do realize that would have went off the tracks as far as what he was striving to write "aboot" (I still don't hear "aboot" when we say "about") .
Overall, I loved it and know for myself that he captured my love for being Canadian and taught me a few things. Mike is to Canada what #14 was for the Leafs.
