Behind the curtain of her happy on-screen persona, Valerie Bertinelli’s life has been no easy ride, especially when it comes to her own self-image and self-worth. She waged a war against herself for years, learning to equate her value to her appearance as a child star on One Day at a Time and punishing herself in order to fit into the unachievable Hollywood mold. Reese Witherspoon’s grandmother Dorothea always said a combination of beauty and strength made Southern women “whiskey in a teacup”. We may be delicate and ornamental on the outside, she said, but inside, we’re strong and fiery. Reese’s Southern heritage informs her whole life, and she loves sharing the joys of Southern living with practically everyone she meets. She takes the South wherever she goes with bluegrass, big holiday parties, and plenty of Dorothea’s fried chicken.

Lovely to hear Betty, content was meh…
There’s something so delightful about hearing Betty White. She’s absolutely endearing. And, she doesn’t seem to be a great writer, alas - the chapters feel incomplete, stop randomly, don’t have an arc that make sense. It took a lot of the enjoyment out of the experience.. perhaps she needed a better editor? But I still liked hearing a bit about her life.

A delightful visit
I had seen Betty White off and on over the years, and didn't expect to see her working at her age. She's very active mentally and physically, and has a warm and funny take on life. This book, which is read by her, talks about her movie and TV experiences, thoughts about growing older, childhood, and work with animals. The book is a bit short, but it makes for a pleasant couple of hours. I felt like I had had a nice visit with a classy lady.

Nice For Fans
A very short yet entertaining book, it’s basically just some random neural firings from Betty White.
If you’re a fan (like me) you’ll enjoy it. I especially like any tid-bits referring to “The Golden Girls” which is my all time favourite TV show.

Sensible Life Advice With Humor
Would you listen to If You Ask Me again? Why?
I would listen to this book again because it was such a pleasure and there is so much practical advice in it that I'm sure it's quite impossible for me to have gotten all the gems of wisdom in the first listening.
What was one of the most memorable moments of If You Ask Me?
When Betty speaks about her time on the Golden Girls.
Which character – as performed by Betty White – was your favorite?
Betty White, of course, is always herself.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
Practical life advice from a grand old dame.
Any additional comments?
If you're down about ageing, listen to this book and see if you can't see things from a more positive perspective.

mildly entertaining
I was honestly disappointed in this book. I found it mildly entertaining; I grinned a few times but never laughed out loud. It's only a couple of hours long, but I wasn't sad when it was over. I was glad to be able to move on to another book. Of course I adore Betty White, so I was really hoping for more. I'm glad that I learned some more about her life, especially the animal activism parts, but there just wasn't anything particularly engaging in the book. I know that I'm in the minority here, but I expected much more from this cultural gem. #memoir #readbyauthor #charming #tagsgiving #sweepstakes

Cute story
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
This is an enjoyable entertaining read, a perfect showcase for the charming Betty White
What does Betty White bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
This book is a perfect "listen". I would recommend this book as one to listen to, not necessarily to read.
Could you see If You Ask Me being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?
No ....No one
Any additional comments?
Light, fluffy listen. No one but Betty should "read" her own books for the audible audience. Remarkable and talented lady.

Any additional comments?
I'm not sure why I bought this title, it could be that I was missing my 100 year old grandma or the Snickers commercial , but whatever brought me to this place had me laughing about Betty's observations.
I've not had a television for 25 years so the sitcoms did not influence my decision. I found a fellow animal-lover in this story and enjoyed her adventures. Betty is funny and this is a feel-good read.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Yes, as if she was talking only to you. I love the format in which she states a single topic and then gives her take on it.
What was one of the most memorable moments of If You Ask Me?
The whole Saturday Night Live experience. I also love how polite she is, really classy!
Have you listened to any of Betty White’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
No
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes

Great no-pressure listen, only two hours in length. A true American Icon!!!
