Publisher's Summary

With Wizard's First Rule and seven subsequent masterpieces, Terry Goodkind has thrilled readers worldwide with the unique sweep of his storytelling. Now, in Chainfire, Goodkind returns with a novel of Richard and Kahlan, the beginning of a sequence of three novels that will bring their epic story to its culmination.

After being gravely injured in battle, Richard awakes to discover Kahlan missing. To his disbelief, no one remembers the woman he is frantically trying to find. Worse, no one believes that she really exists, or that he was ever married. Alone as never before, he must find the woman he loves more than life itself....if she is even still alive. If she was ever even real.

What the critics say

"Bond's somewhat understated style and relaxed, steady pace keep the story moving and help listeners sustain interest from start to finish. The characters' secrets and political maneuverings are in good hands with Bond." ( AudioFile)

Some big improvements in story and narration.

this was written as a trilogy to accommodate new readers to jump in without having to read the numerous books that came before it. the downfall of this is that at least a third of the book is rehashing nearly everything that has happened to this point. As a fan of the old books I had a tough time slogging through all the recap, but was riveted by the time we got to the meat of the book. Jim bond was pretty terrible in his first few outings as a narrator but as he got comfortable with these characters and the world I felt more personality feeling come from his different voices. a stark contrast to his monotone delivery of his first few books.

overall a solid book when compared to the last.

Excellent

Couldn't stop listening to this. Definitely one of the most frustrating but memorable books in The Sword of Truth. I would highly recommend both this series and this particular book to readers.

There is a masterpiece hidden here

This book was a bit slow for me to get into. The story is very solid, but it's hidden in Jim Bonds bland narration. Every female voice he does I find myself rolling my eyes and losing interest.

I'm excited that they go back to Sam for the rest of the series. His narration in book 1 was why I'm here.

Jim Bond Improves Again

The first book read by Jim Bond was just.. well in a word bad, His performances since have steadily improved, which I am truly thankful for. Now he is starting to give these excellent story's the justice they deserve. The story itself is fantastic and a fun listen, but like all Mr. Goodkinds books there is way to much in the line of repeating a characters or plot points over and over that by the third book should have been stopped. at book 9 you had better know what a confessor is by now....Though to those fans like myself if you have made it this far that's not going to stop us now from enjoying the adventure these amazing characters go through, and for anyone looking to immerse themselves in a long and engrossing series look no further than The Sword of Truth.

Terrible narration

Cannot stand this narrator. He's absolutely awful and makes me think of nothing so much as the old Speak and Spell toys.

Utter Nonsense

Series started off pretty decent and has since turned into nonstop blathering. this whole book is just one long winded conversation about whats right and wrong. If you want to read something decent, don't try this. Read the Bible instead. It is less tedious...
