Publisher's Summary

For dinosaurs, it was a big rock. For humans: Coronal Mass Ejection (CME).

When the Earth is hit by the greatest CME in recorded history (several times larger than the Carrington Event of 1859), the combined societies of the planet's most developed nations struggle to adapt to a life thrust back into the Dark Ages.

In the United States, the military scrambles to speed the nation's recovery on multiple fronts including putting down riots, establishing relief camps, delivering medical aid, and bringing communication and travel back on line.

Just as a real foothold is established in retaking the skies (utilizing existing commercial aircraft supplemented by military resources and ground control systems), a mysterious virus takes hold of the population, spreading globally over the very flight routes that the survivors fought so hard to rebuild. The communicability and mortality rates are devastating, leaving only small pockets of survivors scattered throughout the countryside.

Commune: Book One is the story of one small group of survivors who must adapt to a primitive, hostile world or die. As they learn the rules of this new era, they must decide how far they're willing to go to continue living, continually asking themselves the same question daily: is survival worth the loss of humanity?

Fantastic debut!

When the great R. C. Bray requested of the author to narrate this novel, it became obvious that I would have to listen to it. What a great beginning to what I hope is a long series. The main characters are really relatable and I have come to care deeply for them. Their story is one I need to follow now. For a post-apocalyptic novel, it is actually realistic, and contains some bright spots of humour that made me laugh out loud. I'm looking forward to parts 2 and 3 and hopefully more.

Been done before

The same old story. Plods along with nothing new to share. Even the best narrator in the business can’t make me listen to the end.

Good for what it is.

Ok so this is a genre I’m extremely sick of and seem to keep stumbling into - American-centric content, set in apocalyptic shit hole they’ve made of the future - revolves around good ol macho American values of militaristic stupidity, ‘the marines’, guns, bombs, killing people, ‘good guys’ vs ‘bad guys’, and the occasional sprinkle of two dimensional ‘feelings’ for character development.
Having said that- it’s well written and a couple steps above most of the dreck in this field. TC Bray’s narration is top notch. The author spends a lot of time reciting factoids apparently gleaned from American survivalist manuals- which gets pretty old, but overall definitely worth a listen even if you’re as jaded as I am, and if this Stars and Stripes Rambo stuff is your cup of tea you’ll totally love it.

Slow Pace

As usual RC Bray does a great job narrating, but the content is very slow and dry. This is not a typical post apocalypse sort of story. That said, if you are big on high depth characters, more than dynamic story progression, this might be for you.

Outstanding

One of the absolute best book series I’ve ever read/listened to. Fantastic story and character development. Excellent performance by RC Bray

A fantastic book! Wow!

When the author is good you enjoy the story and by chance you'll pick up another by the same author.
When the author is great you can hardly wait for the next word, sentence, chapter or sequel. A great author brings characters to life. A great author makes you care about the characters. Joshua Gayou is this author.
I have new friends in Gibbs, Jake & Amanda.
What an amazing novel, characters and story!
Bravo JG!!!
As for RC Bray...what can you say about perfection? He is THE best narrator in the business, hands down. He brings all the characters to life.
The best analogy I can come up with is:
When I was a kid my grandfather used to tell me stories of the war (WWII) and he was so perfect at it that I was transported back to that time and I could smell the gunpowder, hear the shells being fired, taste the horrible rations, feel the pain. I was no longer sitting in his living room drinking tea, I was in that foxhole, hiding behind that tree, laying in that hospital.
RC Bray doesn't just tell you a story, he transports you INTO the story.
I only wish that for those ultimate authors and narrators I could go above and beyond the 5 stars.
Thank you Josh & Bob for a great escape.

Always bring lots of guns to the Apocalypse

I have to agree with other reviewers here, that there is way too much story on guns here. That being said though even a not-gun nut like me listened to this story with interest. I liked that people and I could relate to Amanda. R.C. Bray did a great job even with the lady voices and paced the story well. great listen

Just another story about the "after catastrophe"

It's ordinary. Somethings do not make sense, why were they not hunting, fishing, etc. I much prefer "Gray" as aa "after catastrophe" story. However, if you like guns, you will enjoy the detail descriptions of many types of fire arms.

Not what I hoped for.

This book is well-written with strong character build, but I found it rather boring. I had hoped for more grit considering the dire circumstances in which the survivors found themselves; instead, there were testimonies that seemed to skate over the abiding nightmare of the apocalypse. Anyway, R.C. Bray performed with his usual aplomb which didn't save Commune, but made it as enjoyable as the writing allowed.

A good time killer while running. Story is slow paced and predictable. Use your free credit not worth the money to buy
