Publisher's Summary

From #1 New York Times bestselling author Nora Roberts comes a trilogy about the land we’re drawn to, the family we learn to cherish, and the people we long to love...

Book One of The Cousins O’Dwyer Trilogy

Dark Witch

With indifferent parents, Iona Sheehan grew up craving devotion and acceptance. From her maternal grandmother, she learned where to find both: a land of lush forests, dazzling lakes, and centuries-old legends.

Ireland. County Mayo, to be exact. Where her ancestors’ blood and magic have flowed through generations - and where her destiny awaits.

Iona arrives in Ireland with nothing but her Nan’s directions, an unfailingly optimistic attitude, and an innate talent with horses. Not far from the luxurious castle where she is spending a week, she finds her cousins, Branna and Connor O’Dwyer. And since family is family, they invite her into their home and their lives. When Iona lands a job at the local stables, she meets the owner, Boyle McGrath. Cowboy, pirate, wild tribal horsemen, he’s three of her biggest fantasy weaknesses all in one big, bold package.

Iona realizes that here she can make a home for herself - and live her life as she wants, even if that means falling head over heels for Boyle. But nothing is as it seems. An ancient evil has wound its way around Iona’s family tree and must be defeated. Family and friends will fight with each other and for each other to keep the promise of hope - and love - alive...

"So mote it be..."

If you read the Guardians trilogy then you're in familiar territory with the Dark Witch and the Cousins O'dwyer trilogy by Nora Roberts. Six friends band together to defeat a terrible villain, rooted in mythology. Aside from that, the series is it's own. Five friends and one distant cousin come together in Mayo, Ireland to reconnect with their magical heritage, take down an evil sorcerer that has been following their ancestors for centuries, all the while navigating love, loss, and family ties.

This particular book follows the inner thoughts and actions of Iona as she runs away to Ireland to find the home she's always been searching for. Katherine Kellgren does a good job of bringing the characters personality and distinct voices but tends to make the Irish women sound much older than they are written.

All in all, worth the read if you have a mind for romance, magic, and friendship.

Not sure

The main character is very annoying. I feel like it started in the middle of the story. Everything was very rushed. I compare it to the Circle Trilogy, which in my opinion is a masterpiece, so this book felt really dry. I might buy the second book if i have an extra credit, but for now, I'm trying another trilogy.

Great Narrator! Otherwise same Old same old.

I was so disappointed by this book because it’s just a rinse and repeat of every other trilogy Nora Roberts has ever written. And I’ve read one you’ve read them all. However, the narrator was awesome. Awesome and I really loved how I felt like I could identify every characters voice.
