Publisher's Summary

Lethal operative Scot Harvath is dispatched to avenge the killing of American citizens abroad in #1 New York Times and #1 Wall Street Journal bestselling author Brad Thor’s new pulse-pounding thriller.

In the war-ravaged borderlands of Ukraine, a Russian mercenary unit has gone rogue. Its members, conscripted from the worst prisons and mental asylums across Russia, are the most criminally violent, psychologically dangerous combatants to ever set foot upon the modern battlefield.

With all attention focused on the frontlines, they have pushed deeper into the interior to wage a campaign of unspeakable barbarity. As they move from village to village, committing horrific war crimes, they meet little resistance as all able-bodied men are off fighting the war.

Simultaneously, a team of Russian soldiers has been dispatched by the Kremlin to loot truckloads of art and priceless cultural treasures hidden away in a host of churches, museums, and private homes.

When multiple American aid workers are killed, America’s top spy, Scot Harvath, is sent in to settle the score. But in a country so vast, will Harvath be able to find the men in question and, more importantly, will he be able to stop them before they can kill again?

Revised review as I was a little harsh

The story was okay but the narration was still bad. I was a little harsh about saying a corrupt Ukrainian government and I do believe it is a noble cause but we need more accountability about where the money and weapons are going. I wish them all the best in their fight against the Russian incursion and hope they succeed and have a light democracy and wind up part of NATO.

love the series but

this one is the worst in the series by far. to much propaganda. outright approval of there feds violation of the constitution. the most corrupt country on the planet is pure as the driven snow. both countries are corrupt, both presidents are bad and both force ppl to serve that don't want to be there. o and both have nazi battalions. this is something I would expect from Hollywood

Disappointing

My beach reading this summer was The Collector by Daniel Silva and this novel (Dead Fall by Brad Thor. The two authors, Silva and Thor, disappointed me by making unnecessarily commenting on current US politics. One is progressive and the other conservative so their political perspectives are very different but both detract

Shameful propaganda piece. Covering for deep state

Harvard legacy irreparably soiled. Done with Thor and returning audio book. This guy Thor has crossed to the dark side.

Shocked and dismayed

The story is ridiculous. It’s Goebbel style propaganda. I’m so disappointed. Going to have to say goodbye to Brad Thor and stick with Jack Carr.

The Scott Harvath series has really slid

I have read all of these books, and this one is the worst. It officially makes the Scott Harvath series a tier 2 series. This particular book was trite and wildly uninteresting. There’s nothing intellectually stimulating about it and it reads like a cheap action movie starring Sylvester Stallone. It used to be that these books did an OK job of filling the void once you had read through the truly great novels (Jack carr, Vince Flynn, Kyle mills, etc..) but I would not recommend this book.

A rare miss for Thor.

I only picked up my first Thor novel a few years ago, but I’ve since burned through everything he’s written, even languishing through the Guidall narrations, because the stories were that good.

This time out, I can’t help but say it’s a miss. I understand that the book is written before it read and things change rapidly in modern conflict, but the broad message that any critical viewpoint on the Russo-Ukrainian conflict must be the work of Russian provocateurs is as bold as it is misguided, and uncharacteristically off balance for Thor.

I usually read each of Thor’s new novels two or three times, but I could barely finish this one.

A Total Disappointment

I have always enjoyed Brad Thor’s books and look forward to each new one. However, this book was a complete let down. It felt as though it was thrown together without much thought. The story lines are weak and there is little character development. I hope this is just a one off misfire.

Why would you send Scot?

I really like this series, but this book doesn’t make sense. The story line is boring and I have no idea why you would send the main character to do something like this…. Really pretty boring.

poorly-concealed, Pro Ukrainian war propaganda

maybe I'll change my mind by the time I get to the end of the book, but it is hilariously pro-Ukrainian war propaganda. Really, the only thing missing was to have Zelinsky, himself, narrate the story and then finish every chapter telling us it was our moral duty to send our own children and our own money to be lost in this irrational boondoggle. I'm surprised that the cover of this book doesn't have a picture of him in his "military fatigues" wandering Paris while his wife buys expensive dresses and handbags.
It was my understanding that Brad Thor's books were good because they were based on real life. I can only see that this book is based on the warhawk approved agenda.

Least favorite of the bunch

Not horrible by any means, but just too much filler and not enough of what you expect from Harvath. Great performance by the narrator.
