Publisher's Summary

Sheriff Bree Taggert is blindsided by a killer’s devious plan in number one Amazon Charts and Wall Street Journal bestselling author Melinda Leigh’s novel of escalating shock and suspense.

When Sheriff Bree Taggert discovers the body of a young woman floating near the bank of the Scarlet River, a note in her abandoned car suggests suicide. The autopsy reveals a different story. Holly Thorpe was dead long before she dropped off the bridge and hit the water.

As Bree and her investigator Matt Flynn delve into the case, secrets in Holly’s personal life complicate their efforts to solve the murder. Holly left behind a volatile marriage, an equally divisive relationship with her sister, and an employer whose intimate involvement with Holly was no secret. Each one has a motive for murder.

When Holly’s sister is terrorized by a stalker’s sick prank, and the prime suspect turns up dead, everything Bree was sure of is upended and her case goes off the rails. When the killer strikes close to home, Bree and Matt must race to solve the murders before one of their own becomes the next victim.

Narration of this series needs some work

The story was very good and once again, I couldn’t predict the ending! Love it! I really like this series but the narrator has such a challenge with the male characters. Not only does she go overboard with trying to differentiate between male and female characters, but Matt constantly sounds brooding or sleepy, even when she reads “Matt exclaimed!!” She’s not reading for context AT ALL. It’s super distracting, especially for a suspense novel. she does it for the female characters as well, but the male ones are so off that it makes it even more pronounced.

Well worth the Wait!

Great continuation of the Bree Tagert Series! Love the writing. The suspense is great and not that easy to figure out. This story surprised me! Also, not too much sex but just the right amount of tease. Leaves the reader to fill in the spaces.
Thank you Melinda.
I’ve listened to all of your books and will eagerly await your next.

LOVE MELINDA LEIGH!!!

I am a true fan of Melinda Leigh and appreciate her writing talent. I always hate to see the story end. I look so forward to the next release. As for the narrator....I HATE, HATE, HATE Matt's voice. it's ridiculously monotone...boring...flat...one unvaried tone. Many times you can't even hear what he's saying due to the tone being so low. That truly needs to be corrected. I gave the Performance a 4 star and it would have been a 5 star except for the voice of Matt. CHRISTINA TRAISTER...if you listened to your own narration you would make changes without being told or reading reviews!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sound levels

I’m on my third book in the series and have enjoyed it. I have just started this book, but what I’ve noticed is that the voices reading the characters other than the narration voice are all more muted and softer. It is difficult sometimes to hear them against background noise while the narrator voice comes through loud and clear. If I turned the character voices up, the narrator voice becomes too loud.

Monotone reader

Are used to think it odd that reviews would include comments about a reader ruining a book for them… I had never experienced that, until this book. Seriously, the character of Matt, was a complete, total, utter mono-tone throughout. No matter what the circumstances, his voice was boring and lacking any emotion at all the entire time. Similar to young children when they first learn to read, and they literally just read the words. I almost stopped listening at the beginning, but I had enjoyed this series. I found the reader to be so distracting, that I was never able to get into the story. Really unfortunate. Doubtful I will get any more books with this narrator.

Story is great, but the narrator could do better.

What a thrilling ride this book was. I enjoyed the mystery and I hoped I was wrong but the conclusion still shocked me. I am enjoying Bree’s story and I can’t wait to see what happens next. It was also great seeing both Lance and Morgan too.
The audiobook was okay. My only complain is the narrator when she portrays the male voices. They honestly sound like they are bored out of their minds so that takes away from the book. I decided to bump up the speed so it wouldn’t be as noticeable.

She never disappoints

I love this series. I can’t wait for book 4. Drown her sorrows was truly a surprise. Generally I can figure it out mid way thru a book and in this case I didn’t see it coming! Great book! Keep them coming!
