Audiobook 1 of the Archaon Duology

Archaon Everchosen, Lord of the End Times, stands poised to sweep the world away in a storm of Chaos. But where did he come from? Who was he before he fell to darkness? For the first time, the true story behind Archaon is revealed.

LISTEN TO IT BECAUSE

It's the first half of one of the most epic tales in Warhammer history, delving into the past of the Chaos champion known as Archaon and exploring what can make a devout Sigmarite warrior fall into the service of the Dark Gods.

THE STORY

In the north of the world the forces of Chaos gather, awaiting their moment to strike. At their head is the Everchosen, the warrior who will lead the final, cataclysmic assault that will usher in the End Times and the reign of the Ruinous Powers. But he was not always thus – he was once a man, a devout servant of the warrior-god Sigmar. What could cause such a soul to fall to the worship of the Dark Gods? What dark events could have put a knight of the Empire on the path to becoming the harbinger of the world's end? And just who was the man who will become known to all as Archaon?

I’ve been waiting for years to get access to this book and be able to read or listen to it. Amazingly done, great lore and narration. Can’t wait for part two

Finally!

While the narrator does a great job, the characters are utterly one dimensional and impossibly boring. If you want to read this so you can learn Archaon's backstory, just do yourself a favor and read the summary off wikipedia or lexicanum or such. I was expecting some good character drama and moments of badassery. What I got was a whiny teenager's idea of ''cool" and a buttload of Deux Ex Machina constantly saving his arse.

What sucks the most is that there are some neat ideas here. He tries so escape his fate a few times and the way that was handled was interesting. But we never get any chance to grow attached to a complex pre-villain character version of Archaon. We just see this one dimensional borderline suicidal templar doing reckless things (something he continues to do post-villain as well) and then going "oh no there are consequences to my recklessness and people I like die oh THE GODS ALL SUCK NYEAAA".

And where the first half of the book at least has SOME fun bits (the sewer section was quite funny as was the temple section), the second half of the book is literally:
"I am Archaon and I am the everchosen so feaaaar me" "Then Archaon did things and the things came to pass and he found some guys and he didn't trust them so he killed them and then found more gu-I AM ARCHAON THE END SO FEAAAAR MEEEEE GRRR-as I was saying, he found more guys and they sucked so he killed them too and then h-I AM ARCHAON THE APOCALYPSE I AM SO COOL GRRR"

I kid you not this is the entire last half of the book. Shame cuz I liked the narrator quite a bit.
On the flip side, you know who was utterly diabolically delightful? Belakor. Belakor rules.

Boring...so utterly boring
