About this listen

The repercussions of an illicit affair unfold in this short story by bestselling author Taylor Jenkins Reid.

Dear stranger…

A desperate young woman in Southern California sits down to write a letter to a man she’s never met - a choice that will forever change both their lives.

My heart goes out to you, David. Even though I do not know you…

The correspondence between Carrie Allsop and David Mayer reveals, piece by piece, the painful details of a devastating affair between their spouses. With each commiserating scratch of the pen, they confess their fears and bare their souls. They share the bewilderment over how things went so wrong and come to wonder where to go from here.

Told entirely through the letters of two comforting strangers and those of two illicit lovers, Evidence of the Affair explores the complex nature of the heart. And ultimately, for one woman, how liberating it can be when it’s broken.

I'm a huge fan of Taylor Jenkins Reid so I was surprised by how disappointing this title was, and quite frankly, consider the purchase to be a waste of an Audible credit. The story was predictable and I was relieved that it ended quickly.

This short story was an interesting one.

I love how the author presented the story in letters.
If this were to happen in today’s world, texts would be sent, taking away from the gaps between communication.
The letters gave the two characters time to grieve and time to heal, all the while supporting one another.

The way the story unfolds turns two victims into victorious. Although the waiting game felt unsettling, it was exactly what needed to happen. Carrie found all the answers she was looking for and more importantly, she found herself.

I was so drawn into this story and had various ideas of how it would unfold.
Part of me was hoping for a different ending but the ending in this story is tasteful and solidifies the respect these two have for each other. They were drawn together for a reason and one that taught them a painful lesson can be exactly what you needed to change.

Lies can lead to finding yourself!

Great narrators. Story placed in the 1970’s so very believable with the letter writing.
Story is short but long if you think of the dates the letter writing is taken over .
Enjoyable story line. Planing to read/listen to more of this author.

Short but sweet
