Publisher's Summary

Break the rules, not the fast with world-renowned biohacker and New York Times best-selling author Dave Asprey.

For more than a decade, the Bulletproof founder Dave Asprey has shared his unique point of view and expertise to help fans become the best versions of themselves. From living longer to getting smarter, maximizing performance to practicing mindfulness, Dave’s followers look to him for his take on the most effective techniques to become healthier and more powerful than most doctors think is possible.

Asprey has been fasting for years, long before it gained widespread popularity, and if you’re a fan of Bulletproof coffee and The Bulletproof Diet, you have been enjoying some of the benefits of Intermittent Fasting too.

In Fast This Way, Dave asks listeners to forget everything they think they know about the ancient practice and takes them on a journey through cutting-edge science to examine the ways novice fasters and Intermittent Fasting loyalists can up-end their relationship with food and upgrade their fasting game beyond calorie restriction.

What IF eating the right foods at the right time can actually enhance your fast? What IF how you work out and sleep could trick your body into thinking you are fasting? What IF it were easy to skip a meal, or two, or three? What IF fasting is different for women, can be personalized to your genes, and can impact your mental health? What IF all fasts could be created equal?

Fast This Way is a compelling lesson through the latest thinking on fasting and gives listeners the manual and toolkit to make the most of their fasts and their personal biology.

Well worth it - motivated and hopeful to jump in.

Great audiobook. Read by the author and it’s a great listen. A couple chapters in and I decided to start an intermittent fast and kick start ketosis again. Mainly the book has inspired hope in me and challenged me to engage my health journey again. It explains why things are the way they are and how they can change. So, day two of intermittent fasting and ketosis today and I’m not even halfway through the book. Thanks!

Great, great book!

Dave wrote a great book if you're looking for the essential, not overly complicated science, lots of anecdotes, and observations from personal experience and observations. Love it.

Do not listen to this ego maniac

I just got this book and am totally shocked at some of the BS this guy is taking about. He literally says that you should have oil and butter in your coffee (the Bulletproof coffee that He invented and markets BTW) and that it will not break a fast.
UM, yes. Yes it will break a fast. Sure you can use it in conjunction with fasting, but you are NOT fasting if you are consuming fats and proteins, no. You will not stay in a fasted state, if you eat, no. lol

He even goes as far as to state anyone who just fasts with black coffee and people who tell you "not to eat while fasting" are purists or trying to sell you something (coming from this guy??) and "If you are into self-flagellation feel free to fast".
Ok. This is Ridiculous - and if you are new to fasting, go get one of the best selling books by an Actual Doctor like Jason Fung.

No, you cannot consume calories and be fasting. Yes, you can fast cleanly for amazing health and weight loss results.
SMH - what a Crook this guy is.

So much more than fasting info in this book

There is great information to transform your health in this book. I also love the sleep, nutrition and supplement info.

great book for an open minded person

it's a easy going book that talks about how the body responds to fasts and diets and how some hormone responses work. I wish it was a little clearer about what foods he recommends and I am usually pretty suspect when the person selling the book is also selling products related to it. But he is upfront that you don't need to buy his products to achieve the benefits of fasting in the methods he suggests. All in all I enjoyed his book and have successfully done a fast since listening to the book.

Good read even if you already fast

I have passed through many of the same fasting and diet strategies and fads as the author. Over the past 3 years I have gradually started fasting because nothing i had tried seemed to help me sustainably manage my weight, energy level and mental focus. Orthodox strategies all failed for me despite reasonable compliance..

i am a practicing physician and surgeon who at times has to discuss obesity and weight management with patients. How could I have conviction and credibility with patients when as hard as I tried I was failing. Several colleagues told me about their success with fasting, 5/2 diets and intermittent fasting. The physiologic basis for fasting is proven. I started slowly but stuck with it and have felt good and often great, and steadily lost weight.

I got this book because I wanted to get further personal motivation and have a really good stump speech for my patients. Dave has filled in a lot of details for me. This book is not a heavy-handed rigid unsustainable approach but rather a comprehensive gentle, realistically achievable description about how to transform how one thinks about and interacts with food to get the best out of life. If you struggle with being overweight and/or fatigue and you think you can't possibly fast, or truly need to eat 3 meals a day let Dave coach you to a bunch of new perspectives.

Good but too much self promotion (ie: product promotion)

This was a good book. It had some great tidbits on how to fast and how to make fasting less strenuous. The downside was that David endlessly plugged Bulletproof Coffee. I mean endlessly! I think he mentioned it 100 times throughout the book. That really took away from some of the good parts.

Bulletproof Coffee and a Spiritual Journey into a Cave

After listening to this audio book I’m walking away mostly disappointed. I was looking for something much more technical and helpful as far as scheduling, motivation techniques, and this book just didn’t speak to me. The author’s product and company, Bulletproof Coffee, is mentioned CONSTANTLY. This book felt more like a really long advertisement for his product, website, and almost constant self indulgence.

Do You Like Coffee?

If you don’t like coffee, don’t buy this book. Are you already comfortable fasting? If so, don’t buy this book. The author spends 45 minutes talking about coffee until I wanted to scream. I hate coffee, it makes me very sick, and I can’t handle caffeine either. How can he assume everyone can drink coffee on an empty stomach? It was rude and disrespectful in the way that making narrow assumptions about people is always disrespectful.

There is tons of info in this book. I loved it and listened to it while going through the 2 Week Fasting challenge. It will reach you all you need to know about fasting in all its variations, man or woman. Don't go without it!

Life Changing

Wow - this hit home for me in a way no other book has. The style, ease, and story telling wrapped by data just sticks. I am inspired to fast for clarity, fast from weasel words and mostly fast from hate. Read the whole book and you will not only understand but be inspired as well.

The whole picture on fasting

I have been IF very occasionally after reading The Obesity Code and was looking for something to further explain the benefits and to provide supplement suggestions. The credible science presented in an understandable manner is exactly what I was searching for. The bonus of the hacks to make it easier, the history and inspiration - all presented in a reasonable, "find what works for you" tone make this a very worthwhile investment - even if you are already embracing intermittent fasting.
