Publisher's Summary

The final novel of the Forerunner Saga trilogy by science-fiction legend Greg Bear - set in the Halo universe and based on the New York Times best-selling video game series!

One hundred thousand years ago, Chaos rules the final days of the Forerunner empire. The Flood - a horrifying, shape-changing, and unstoppable parasite - has arrived in force, aided by unexpected allies, and internal strife has desperately weakened Forerunner defenses.

Facing the imminent collapse of their civilization, the Forerunners known as the Ur-Didact and the Librarian reveal what they know about the relationship between the long-vanished race of the Precursors and the Flood. While the Precursors created many technological species, including those of the Forerunners and humanity itself, the roots of the Flood may be found in an act of enormous barbarity, carried out beyond our galaxy 10 million years before. Because of that savagery, a greater evil looms.

Only the Ur-Didact and the Librarian - husband and wife pushed into desperate conflict - hold the keys to a solution. As they face the consequences of a mythic tragedy, one of them must now commit the greatest atrocity of all time - a shocking act designed to prevent an insane abomination from dominating the entire galaxy....

Keeps getting better.

The librarians ending was so sad. So that's how the forerunners ended, never would have guessed.

(Dull) Maybe it's not for me

I don't believe there's anything wrong with the book. I think my review comes from the fact this book is not my prefered style of fiction. This type of science fiction, this series, is a little more dense than I prefer. I find the forerunners to be boring, their society does not interest me. It sometimes comes across as inorganic and clearly contrived to fit within the halo universe. I found Forerunners to be over explained therefore removing a lot of the mystery in the overall Halo universe.

I find the performer to be single note. if I don't pay attention for a split second I will miss who is speaking. His vocal changes are too subtle to distinguish. Out of all three books this was the worst read in my opinion.

Somehow the shortest book in the series feels the longest and it is becoming a chore to finish it.

Referring again to my earlier point, I believe this book would be greatly appreciated by someone who enjoys this style of writing and this subgenre of Science fiction.
