Having trouble with this one

I'm having trouble getting through this one, but I paid for it so I'm going to try. I will be generous and say maybe the story is just showing its age. It laughs off a pretty violent rape attempt as some guy "making a pass," and then treats it as foreplay. And the narrator chose to voice every woman as if she were a cross between a Barbie doll and Disney Princess. I've liked a bunch of Nora Roberts books, but this one belongs in the 80's.

Yikes

There are a few things that make this story difficult.
1. He assaults her and then acts like she's being unreasonable for being upset about it. Obviously this was written in the time when assault was seen as acceptable behaviour for men...
2. There is another story running quietly in the background. It must have started about a third of the way through. It's annoying.
3. The narrator makes all the women sound stupid.

The story itself is a snoozer so all in all it was a no from me.

Dated and amateurish

This is one of Roberts' earlier novels, and it does not stand up to time.

Reader was distracting

I think I would have preferred to read this story, as the narration was very sing song and the reader’s voices infantilized the characters.

The story itself was okay - definitely dated, but not bad for a light and fluffy romance.

Loved it!!

I read a lot of Nora Roberts and I find them all good. However, once in a while, one of her books really gets to me. This is one of those. I loved the characters, the storyline and the narrator. Ahhhhh.... Next Nora Roberts book please!!

YES YES YES

You know they are going to end up together - why else write about it however...

Very interesting and independant characters, very interesting and insightful read.

Sandra Burr is also really great.

Again... couldn't put this book down - finished it in 2 days!

Thank you for keeping my weekends alive - especially the boring ones.

Hidden Riches

Any additional comments?

Liked the book and story but not the RECORDING as there is a lot of back ground noise starting about 3/4 the way through the first part of this book. Very distracting and when i asked if there was a better quality recording of the book i got a email back from Audible full of questions to be answered. I can't be bothered going through it all so am disappointed in the support from Audible and Audio quality of the first part of this book. I have never had an Audio problem before, just wanted a better quality recording or perhaps my credit back. :(

Typical Roberts - but enjoyed it

This is a typical Nora Roberts book .. strong woman meets strong man .. they try to avoid their chemistry but can't, one of them has someone trying to do them in .. happy ending for all.

I absolutely enjoyed it ??? it made my commuting in and out of Boston much more pleasant it one could say commuting is a pleasant. I always enjoy Sandra Brown???s narriation.

Beyond dreadful

What disappointed you about Hidden Riches?

Generally, I find Nora Roberts a good storyteller and I have enjoyed some of her books a great deal. This was not one of them. I am guessing this was one of her earliest books, referring as it does (in the story) to old technology like Walkmans. The writing is awkward, saccharine and immature. But the worst part of all was the narrator, whose voice sounded like something from a 1950's movie. Every time the narrator said one of the main character's names -- "Skimmerhorn" -- in that breathless little voice I wanted to smack her, so awful and contrived did it come across. And seriously: who would name a character Skimmerhorn anyway?

What didn’t you like about Sandra Burr’s performance?

Everything. Her voice(s) and "over performance", her pacing. Sandra Burr was absolutely awful and I will go out of my way to avoid any book narrated by her in the future.

Any additional comments?

If you're a fan of Nora Roberts current books, I would strongly encourage you to avoid this older book with it's stereotyped, flat characters, silly dialogue and boring-as-hell storyline. It is terribly dated and a real waste of a credit. I could not finish it.

Not great

I typically enjoy Nora Roberts but this book is set in modern times while the narrator’s voice belongs in an old fashioned book. Pride and Prejudice would be a great book for her voice just not anything recent. I couldn’t even finish listening, had to turn it off.
