Having trouble with this one

I'm having trouble getting through this one, but I paid for it so I'm going to try. I will be generous and say maybe the story is just showing its age. It laughs off a pretty violent rape attempt as some guy "making a pass," and then treats it as foreplay. And the narrator chose to voice every woman as if she were a cross between a Barbie doll and Disney Princess. I've liked a bunch of Nora Roberts books, but this one belongs in the 80's.

Yikes

There are a few things that make this story difficult.
1. He assaults her and then acts like she's being unreasonable for being upset about it. Obviously this was written in the time when assault was seen as acceptable behaviour for men...
2. There is another story running quietly in the background. It must have started about a third of the way through. It's annoying.
3. The narrator makes all the women sound stupid.

The story itself is a snoozer so all in all it was a no from me.

Reader was distracting

I think I would have preferred to read this story, as the narration was very sing song and the reader’s voices infantilized the characters.

The story itself was okay - definitely dated, but not bad for a light and fluffy romance.

Listen to the sample, I found the voices completely off putting.

The male characters sounded strange, almost high-pitched and the women sounded like cartoon characters. The story is long and repetitive. The plot is similar to A Matter of Choice and I didn't love the main characters but that may have to do with the narration. Not worth the money or time.

Dated and amateurish

This is one of Roberts' earlier novels, and it does not stand up to time.
