One of My Favorites Ever!

Would you consider the audio edition of Honest Illusions to be better than the print version?

Audio is better for me because it allows me to listen to books while doing other things around the house. If someone couldn't get this book in Audio, then I'm sure the book version would be just as good.

What other book might you compare Honest Illusions to and why?

I wouldn't compare this book to any other. This book was amazing.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I loved the part in the book when Luke sees his son for the first time. My heart just melted. It was beautifully done.

Any additional comments?

This has to be one of my top 3 books ever. I absolutely loved this book and will read it again in the future. I would recommend it to anyone. It was perfect.

Excellent Audiobook !!!!

NR is such a talent author! She had such multiple depths to her stories, she integrates romance, suspense, family and human relations, history and much more! You end up listening to a well constructed experience brought to perfection by the excellent narration of SB. Well done both! I absolutely loved it! All NR audiobooks are currently in my library waiting for be listened to ;) I am excited to go over her books as I know I will not be disappointed!

I don’t like blackmail plots

where the victim gives in and just pays and pays. Two different blackmails were used to get characters to do things that did not fit their motivations. Not a good story for me.

CAUTION SPOILER:
In one blackmail, the victim A is supposed to leave the person he loves (B) and not tell B. It was a stupid device to make them both suffer. I think A could have told B and asked B to keep it secret, and B would have kept the secret. But the author did not do that. Then later A violates part of the blackmail order by coming back to town, but still doesn’t tell B that he was blackmailed -- stupid. Made me mad.
END SPOILER.

Some arguments felt stupid. Like Roxy was sick but kept insisting she could do a job. Toward the end Roxy kept a secret from Luke for no good reason. It was a cheap plot device to create conflict. I didn't like it.

I did not enjoy the romantic relationship. She pursued him, he repeatedly rejected her. When they did get together I didn’t feel anything.

The main characters were magicians who were thieves on the side. They justified it saying that they only stole jewels from the wealthy who were insured. I did not like the thief part. I loved another series where the main guy was a thief (The Parker series by Stark). But it was not enjoyable here.

AUDIOBOOK NARRATOR:
Sandra Burr was awful. Her male voices were terrible. Some sounded like cartoon characters. It seemed all her energy was used to create weird low voices instead of emotional interpretation. Luke’s voice was so unsexy -- a turn off. Her voice for the heroine at times sounded like a little girl - too high pitched and baby doll like. You could hear the narrator taking breaths -- also annoying.

Genre: contemporary romance

Magical

Loved this book! It's full of love and magic. I absolutely enjoyed the cat & mouse games between the characters. All the characters were wonderfully written in the story.

Nora at her best

When Nora Roberts writes a great book she writes a great book. The characters and the story worked together all the way to a fantastic ending. It's books like this one that keeps me solidly prepared to buy what she writes.

Something Wrong with Audio

The story was okay. Enjoyable but not one of NR’s best. The narrator was decent but the sound was very choppy. As though it were speeded up and slowed down with a weird choppy sound at times.
