Publisher's Summary

Identical twins Dominick and Thomas Birdsey were born in the waning moments of 1949 and the opening minutes of 1950. Now at 40, Dominick's entire life has been compromised and constricted by anger and fear, by the paranoid schizophrenic twin brother he both loves and resents, and by the past they shared with their adoptive father, Ray, a spit-and polish ex-Navy man, and their long-suffering mother, Concettina. The brothers' relationship undergoes the ultimate test when Thomas commits an unthinkable act that threatens the tenuous balance of both his and Dominick's lives. Wally Lamb's long awaited follow-up to the critically acclaimed novel She's Come Undone is narrated by Tony Award-winning actor Ken Howard.

Sad-isfying

I loved it, narrator was excellent. It had me interested immediately; I listened for 2.5 hours from the start.

Amazing!

I loved this book! Endearing characters and a glimpse into the life of twins and schizophrenia. Have read it several times and never tire of it.

Background noise

I enjoyed this. Fabulous story, great reading. The talking in the background was very distracting!

Not Complete!!

My niece has the book and I realised that the audio book is not complete! They took a large part out: the grandfather's biography is in the paper book but was not read! This is very disapointing. It is though a very good book, Ken Howard has the intonation, the different voices were perfect, although for me, he reads a little too fast.

Mumble in the background

Lovely book but not a good audiobook. Mumble in the background which is very distracting.

Worst audio I’ve listened to

Great book, even though it’s not the full version. Narrator is fantastic! But the background noise and constant voices were so distracting and disappointing. Made me feel schizophrenic. 🤨 I should have just bought the paperback version and read it. It was annoying to have to press the 30 second rewind so often due to the background noise and voices. I feel I should get a credit back for the disappointment!

Abridged version is crap

I wasn’t aware an entire section (the grandfathers diary) would be deleted ... was to be used for participating in a book club - I can’t even think about participating effectively without hearing the whole book. What a waste of time

Snooze fest

This was not interesting to me. I kept going to see if there was a point. The only upside was I helped me sleep.

Still nice even if its a shortened version of the original novel.

Audio quality is low. There occasional background noise. Sounds like the narrator has people chattering in the background, distracting
