Publisher's Summary

"Jar of Hearts grabs you by the throat! The perfect blend of riveting characters, chilling details, and gasping twists in this standout thriller will keep you frantically reading until the explosive end.” (Lisa Gardner, New York Times best-selling author of Right Behind You)

This is the story of three best friends: one who was murdered, one who went to prison, and one who's been searching for the truth all these years....

When she was 16 years old, Angela Wong - one of the most popular girls in school - disappeared without a trace. Nobody ever suspected that her best friend, Georgina Shaw, now an executive and rising star at her Seattle pharmaceutical company, was involved in any way. Certainly not Kaiser Brody, who was close with both girls back in high school.

But 14 years later, Angela Wong's remains are discovered in the woods near Geo's childhood home. And Kaiser - now a detective with Seattle PD - finally learns the truth: Angela was a victim of Calvin James. The same Calvin James who murdered at least three other women.

To the authorities, Calvin is a serial killer. But to Geo, he's something else entirely. Back in high school, Calvin was Geo's first love. Turbulent and often volatile, their relationship bordered on obsession from the moment they met right up until the night Angela was killed. For 14 years, Geo knew what happened to Angela and told no one. For 14 years, she carried the secret of Angela's death until Geo was arrested and sent to prison.

While everyone thinks they finally know the truth, there are dark secrets buried deep. And what happened that fateful night is more complex and more chilling than anyone really knows. Now the obsessive past catches up with the deadly present when new bodies begin to turn up, killed in the exact same manner as Angela Wong. How far will someone go to bury her secrets and hide her grief? How long can you get away with a lie? How long can you live with it?

Capturing

I’m obsessed with this book! I haven’t finished it yet, but it is so enthralling and has captured my attention. I really enjoy listening to the narrator. She plays the parts well and is so easy to listen to. It’s only been day 2 and I almost have it finished!

Couldn’t stop listening

Really enjoyed this story even though it was pretty disturbing! Loved the narration. I feel like the author’s novels that I’ve read so far would make excellent TV series

A lot of twists and turns. Not for the faint of heart. Trigger warnings.

Couldn’t wait to finish once I started. I was completely shocked at almost every chapter

Many tears shed

I loved every minute of this story.Although I will say the last part where she had to shoot her son made me cry so hard. That poor child went through one hell of a life. But it’s one of the best books I,ve read in awhile.

Captivating but dark

I would definitely recommend this novel to anyone whose really into twisted and more disturbing mysteries. It is well written, character driven, and excellently performed. However, if you like the lighter side of women's mystery/thriller novels that's more about plot twists than darkness, theb fair warning that this novel is not that. Trigger warning for sexual assault survivors.

Excellent, character driven story!

This was a well written story and I listened to it over the course of 2 days. I loved how it went from current time period to 15-20 years prior. I also enjoyed that almost being in my late 30s I was around the same age as these characters. The story is told at a really good pace and doesn't slow down. I was able to predict the ending a couple chapters before hand, but that didnt bother me. I think because the build up to the ending was better then the reveal! The reveal without giving anything away felt a bit rushed and then over.
**Also just a warning to others reading/listening there are several rape scenes in this book.

The narration: The thing that took me awhile to get used too was the narrator trying to hard to create a deep male voice for the male characters. It did not feel believable and sometimes took me out of the story.

Great, captivating book! 5 stars

Listen, this is one of the best books I’ve listened to in a long time. I’ve been an audible member for a little over a year now and have listened to well over 2 months (and a few weeks! ah) of thrillers, and serial killer and psychological thrillers are my favorites. This is the first review I’ve ever written so if that doesn’t sell you, I don’t know what will. The narrator is wonderful, and the book was utterly captivating. I finished in less than 2 days and craved more. You will learn to love, hate, fear, and be scared for the main characters—highly recommend to anyone looking to get out of a boring thriller lull!

Not my cup of tea

Typically I like books like Jar of Hearts, however I did not like this book. Firstly it started out slow. Secondly there was way too many graphic scenes of a particular nature in the book. And lastly despite having plot twists, all but one were easy to figure out prior to the author getting there for me.

A 6 star book in my review

Truly my favorite book I have listened to in a very very long time. The write and narrator combo is a fantastic fit. I hope to see more from the. I know there are some, I have t gotten around to listening to then yet.
I loved to truth even if it were only revealed it due time. I loved the rawness of the writing and how January a,ways gets the voices right! To me anyway.

I cant recommend this book enough.

If you are just delving into mystery thriller, this is a great one to start with.

Enjoy

Cheesy

Just above a sappy romance tale with some mystery thrown in. I thought it was pretty cheesy.

Terrible..

Normally I would have returned this book, but because of the reviews I stuck with it and assumed there would be an amazing ending. No amazing ending... totally predictable and silly. Waste of time..

I really enjoyed this book

I really enjoyed this book. I figured out what was going to happen on a few of the big things just before they happed but it was still really good. I read so many of these types of books that I can't imagine being too surprised anymore. My only complaint was the end. It seemed to end a little too fast. I could have used a little more to wrap it up perfectly. I will definitely see what other books this author has to offer!

I couldn’t love it

The idea was good, and the premise was scary, but the unnecessary and graphic sex thrown in- usually violent and even rape- killed it for me. I returned it before I finished it.

Horribly Boring and Predictable

The reviews for this book made it seem like it was going to be this brilliant thriller. Instead, it was overly infused with curse words and cheap scenes to add shock value and controversy.

It was boring to me, and took forever to get anywhere. Not to mention, not one character is likable or relatable so you don’t really care what happens to any of them. It took me a month to get through it because I wasn’t excited at all about the story. Read at your own risk...
