À propos de cet audio
They were best friends until they became roommates. Booker Harris has spent the last several years pushing himself to become the best goalkeeper in the Championship League. Tired of living in the shadows of his headline-splashing brothers, he has finally carved a path of his own. As a child, Poppy McAdams was content in her own little make-believe world, until the boy next door with dimples and pained eyes came barreling into her makeshift fort demanding all her attention. Best friends for most of their lives, everything changes when Poppy abruptly leaves London for University. Now she is back, and gone is the awkward girl from Booker's youth. She has been replaced by a stunning woman with secrets. Secrets that Booker is desperate to know. Sharing a bedroom wall with your best friend from childhood quickly turns to anything but sweet and innocent.
©2017 Amy Daws (P)2017 Amy DawsA few things I really enjoyed about this installment in the HB series:
1) Poppy and Booker are still so young and endearingly naive when it comes to their relationship and life expectations. Even Poppy's inner dialogue during her tour of the house just had me smiling and shaking my head thinking "oh sweety, you have no idea" ☺️ I think their innocence provided some good groundwork for the events of the story and helped explain the reconciliation process. Amy's characters feel real to me because their choices feel consistent with who they are, especially during times of stress and growth.
2) The family dynamics were very strong in this book. Although the Harris family is very present in the whole series, this one felt different and more intentional in the interactions between siblings. We get to see the world from the youngest sibling's POV. He watched everyone grow up and go which leaves him (and us) with a feeling of "where do I belong?"
3) The kitchen scenes seems to be very important in this book (I don't know if it's intentional or not but I felt this was worth noting). These scenes provide us with insight into the family dynamics (both past and present) and reveal unexpressed feelings towards others.
After 4 books I can't imagine anyone else narrating this series. Will and Charlotte continue to give great performances and each bring a sweet, unaffected lightness to Booker and Poppy that make them one of my favourite couples in this series.
Booker and Poppy make me want to hug and shelter them from the bad in the world and tell them to enjoy the good before they grow up and become jaded 😊
