When Chef Anthony Bourdain wrote "Don't Eat Before You Read This" in The New Yorker, he spared no one's appetite, revealing what goes on behind the kitchen door. In Kitchen Confidential, he expanded the appetizer into a deliciously funny, delectably shocking banquet that lays out his twenty-five years of sex, drugs, and haute cuisine.

From his first oyster in Gironda to the kitchen of the Rainbow Room atop Rockefeller Center, from the restaurants of Tokyo to the drug dealers of the East Village, from the mobsters to the rats, Bourdain's brilliantly written and wonderfully read, wild-but-true tales make the belly ache with laughter.

He pulls you in within the first 2 minutes. Ended up listening for 2 hours straight before I could hit pause. An addicting read, filled with crazy stories, knowledge, and raw truth. I worked in the industry only as a server but it was still so relatable.

A must read for anyone

This is a great listen if you're looking at the realities of being a chef in NY. I found it hard to follow at times while doing other things since so fast paced. I thought there would be a bit more on his travels. Loved the first few chapters the best, as to how he found his love for food. I definitely found myself gasping or laughing at times at how incredulous some stories were.

good listen

A great view into the restaurant industry. Bourdain pulls no punches, says it all. Honest and direct. He’ll be missed.

Great book, even better narrator
