Story
Fell times have come to the galaxy. Cadia has fallen, destroyed by the onslaught of Chaos. A Great Rift in the warp has opened, and from its depths spew daemons and the horrors of Old Night. But all hope is not lost… A hero, long absent, has returned, and with him comes the wrath of the Ultramarines reborn. Roboute Guilliman has arisen to lead the Imperium out of darkness on a crusade the likes of which has not been seen since the fabled days of the Emperor. But never before have the forces of Ruin amassed in such numbers, and nowhere is safe from despoliation.

Exile to the miserable world of Sedh, the disgraced Necron Lord Oltyx is consumed with bitterness. Once heir to the throne of a dynasty, he now commands nothing but a dwindling garrison of warriors, in a never-ending struggle against Ork invaders. Before the being called the Emperor revealed himself, before the rise of the aeldari, before the necrontyr traded their flesh for immortal metal, the world was born in violence. Even when they inhabited bodies of flesh, Trazyn the Infinite and Orikan the Diviner were polar opposites. Trazyn, a collector of historical oddities, presides over a gallery full of the most dangerous artefacts - and people - of the galactic past. Orikan, a chronomancer without peer, draws zodiacs that predict and manipulate the future.

Publisher's Summary
An Astra Militarum novel.
The Death Korps of Krieg are deployed to a soul-crushing siege in the Octarius War Zone. They’re the right regiment for the job, though victory might come at a price that some might balk to pay.
Listen to it because: Steve Lyons lifts the mask on the enigmatic Death Korps of Krieg, to show us the true horror that lies at the heart of this storied regiment. If you’re looking for a meat-grinder war, you’ve found it.
The story: Krieg is a dead world.
Fifteen hundred years ago, it declared its independence from the Imperium of Man and paid the price. One loyal soul defied its treacherous rulers and laid the world to waste. From these ashes emerged a unique fighting force, forged and tempered in nuclear fire....
Today, the Death Korps of Krieg lay siege to a captured hive city on the outskirts of the system-spanning Octarius War, in a desperate attempt to secure the cordon that stops untold masses of Orks and Tyranids from spilling out into the Imperium at large. The Korpsmen are relentless, ruthless, implacable and unstoppable, even in the face of a war that seems unwinnable. How far will they go to achieve victory, and is history doomed to repeat itself?
Written by Steve Lyons. Narrated by Timothy Watson. Runtime nine hours 34 minutes.

War in Life, Death in Glory
The story shifts on two scenarios. The first explain the full origins of the Death Korp of Krieg, and the second after the Great Rift in the Octarius war.
It tells what the title states, and shows their fatalistic, morbid mindset and stubborn determination has made them as complete badasses of brutal proportions. Lyons has brought an engaging, riveting tale of sacrifice and duty on an epic scale, and offers no censure at how far the length the Kriegsmen would do for total victory.
One point of flaw that needed to be said were the multiple endings for each characters and how it dragged long just to reach to a sounding conclusion. Despite the detail and effort Lyons produced to a staggering degree, I am more quite content to just leave some of the characters and their fate a mystery.
From the audiobook, Timothy Watson performed superbly as the narrator as his vocation to voice acting from Dragon Age to the Witcher universe vindicates his long list to his credited name that could not be ignored. There are some parts of scene where his voice is stiff and pauses longer than it should be required, but his captivating, mellow voice and his controlled tone outweighed such flaws, and delivers well that is worth the expense or credit.
If you are interested to learn more about the Krieg, and their doom-seeking ways of war this is your ticket.

Good story. Bland delivery
As seems to be the problem with most 40k novels. The narrator delivers most of the story in the same voice with ever so slight accent changes. It’s very hard to know when the story changes characters as there is no transition between views. You’ll be halfway through a paragraph and then bam! It’s another character with no lead in and it can get very confusing.
