Absolutely Incredible
If you take joy in noticing the importance of small details, planted as seeds that grow into revelations chapters later that make little light bulbs go off with the physical feeling of a gut punch as realizations rush to you, then this is for you.
It's clear that every word is written with clear intent and importance and I'm sure a second listen/ read through would illuminate many more of these small moments I overlooked the first time, too focused on the amazing plot progression to reflect on each detail as much as they deserve.
The flow of the story is beautifully done through multiple perspectives, something I sometimes find jarring or rushed.
The characters are full of life and relatable in a simple and compelling way.
I felt a full range of emotions while listening and found myself not simply liking or disliking a character, but rather having complex emotional ties to each one.
The narration is wonderful.
I highly recommend to anybody with interest in the genre.

Just get past Part 1 and it’s so good!
The book is great! It’s unpredictable until the very end and doesn’t go on unnecessarily long. My only issue was the reader in Part 1, which is about the first hour of the book, is awful. It starts fine but then gets weirdly raspy. It’s actually very hard to listen to because it’s so irritatingly fake. I almost quit the book but I got through it and the rest of the book is great and that actor doesn’t come back. Good listen!

Best Kubica yet!!!
I actually SCREAMED in the middle of this book!! When you get there, you will know what I'm talking about!! I've been following Mary's career from the start with THE GOOD GIRL, which remains one of my all time favorite books, but LOCAL WOMAN MISSING is going to give it a run for its money. Thoughtful, real characters and perfectly paced prose are Mary's signature and she gets better with her talents in each book. And, no spoilers but the end is SO SATISFYING!
Thank you, Mary Kubica! You make reading so much fun.

Not that great
This book started off strong. Then about halfway through, it went all over the place, with several loose ends that don’t really get tied up. The “twist” is unbelievable. And while I know this is fiction, you always hope as the reader that the overall plot makes sense. One of the main characters is extremely whiny and annoying, and her narrator’s over enunciation makes it even worse. The other narrator’s voice is good, but she narrated another book that was terrible, so her voice is tainted for me. The villain was ridiculous. No back story, no reasons given for their sudden turn to the dark side. And the fact that all of these people making horrible life decisions live within blocks of each other is insane. Blah.

Disappointed
After reading several positive reviews, I was excited to read this. My expectations were high and I was really let down. I found the story line to be silly- not plausible- and the narrator sounded like she was on the verge of panic from beginning to end- even in parts that were not suspenseful. Tone stressed me out.

Don’t waste a credit on this.
I started out being gripped by this book; the chapter with Delilah in the basement was hair-raising and the narrator was excellent. And then…well, then you get introduced to Meredith and Kate. Now, I have to give Kubica credit for research on birth and the doula function—as a former doula, I can tell you she gets that part just right. But the narrator’s shrill rendition of Meredith doesn’t do the work any favors, as no one likes a screeching harpy ranting on a soapbox. Kate was okay, but the character is kinda dumb for someone who’s supposed to be a veterinarian (and the narrator’s weird Chicago Rs got on my nerves). Plus, as others have mentioned, the forensic examiners would have to be absolute morons to make the judgments they did. HUGE problems with the forensics in this book. And the final “plot twist”—oh my god. Talk about ridiculously unfeasible. I had read a couple of other books by Kubica and enjoyed them very much, so I am sorry to have to pan this one. I hope her next one is better. (Btw, kudos to the Leo narrator, who did a great job with the bored, disaffected teen boy voice.)

I’m not sure what’s worse being told over and over how difficult it is to be a woman and a man’s world especially one who’s pregnant, or the horrible narration by someone who is constantly trying to overdramatize. Can’t even get through this book
