Publisher's Summary

No matter what you see, no matter what you’ve heard, assume nothing.

Adam and Sophie Warner and their three-year-old daughter are vacationing in Washington State’s Hood Canal for Memorial Day weekend. It’s the perfect getaway to unplug - and to calm an uneasy marriage. But on Adam’s first day out on the water, he sees Sophie abducted by a stranger. A hundred yards from shore, Adam can’t save her. And Sophie disappears.

In a nearby cabin is another couple, Kristen and Connor Moss. Unfortunately, beyond what they’ve heard in the news, they’re in the dark when it comes to Sophie’s disappearance. For Adam, at least there’s comfort in knowing that Mason County detective Lee Husemann is an old friend of his. She’ll do everything she can to help. She must.

But as Adam’s paranoia about his missing wife escalates, Lee puts together the pieces of a puzzle. The lives of the two couples are converging in unpredictable ways, and the picture is unsettling. Lee suspects that not everyone is telling the truth about what they know - or they have yet to reveal all the lies they’ve hidden from the strangers they married.

Performances

As usual, Karen Peaks’s performance was excellent. The storyline was interesting but too convoluted about 2/3 res of the way through. The ending became predictable and a little too tidy and quick as if Gregg Olsen had reached his word allowance and had to finish off immediately.

Hardly a likeable character in the bunch !!

I didn't like this book. I almost returned this book. It's only redeeming quality was that I finished it to see if I was right about "who done it"... I was.
Most of the characters were so unlikable that it was difficult to listen.
And last but not least, at times the women's parts were so obviously written by a man. I so not reccomend this book, and am surprised by how many reviewers did.

Thank you Kiindle Unlimited

Great book ,free along with audio on Kindle Unlimited. So much better than books I've waisted a credit on or my money.Very interesting plot with great characters. Better than Gone Girl, and much better than The girl on a train. Never understood what was good about the later. The narration is Ok not great but still worth 5 .Stars.

INFIDELITY, LIES, BETRAYAL...who can you trust??

First of all let me say thanks to Net Galley for allowing me to early review this book. I have read it twice already! What an intense story line! Gregg Olsen has done it again! A couple having problems in their marriage including infidelity. They head up to the Hood Canal to camp at a cabin for Memorial Day weekend. While out on the boat with his daughter Aubrey, his wife Sophie screams. He looks to shore to see a man attacking her and abducting her. He cannot get to shore fast enough. She is gone. There is a witness. Is he credible?? Other couples were in their cabin but no one sees anything? Much to his surprise the cop who shows up is an old childhood friend, Lee. Can she trust her gut that Adam didn't do this to his wife? Can you trust anyone? His father in law is sure Adam killed her. SUCH a well written story. I loved that each chapter is the story told by a person in the story. Each chapter gets more and more twisted. Just when I thought I had it figured out, something else happens and I no longer know who did it. This is one of Gregg Olsen's finest books ever!!! Definitely a must read for all crime addicts!!!

So boring

I had high hopes for this book after reading the reviews. It started off strong but after five or six chapters I just could not care anymore what happened to these people and I gave up on it. Will be returning

Disappointing, Could've Been Shorter

Had high hopes because of the reviews. But much of the narration was boring, & I often lost interest. having to replay parts. I only finished it because I purchased it. The plot & who's to blame was fairly obvious IMO too. Don't waste your time.

Make LYING NEXT TO ME your NEXT read......

WOW!

I enjoyed everything about LYING NEXT TO ME... including the amazing plot, robust character development, exciting twists/ turns... and the superb narration.

The last few books I have listened to have been complete duds so it was a real treat to have the pleasure of listening to a 5-star novel. I listened to this book in one day and stayed up very, very late to finish it because I was unable to put it down.

Don't miss this one!

Really not what I was expecting

The storyline developed very slowly and I did not like the performance at all. Sent it back.

First Gregg Olsen Novel, probably won’t read another

I don’t know if all Gregg Olsen novels are so violent against women, but I won’t be trying another one out. It wasn’t poorly written or a bad story, but the subject matter just really wasn’t my cup of tea.

just ok

the story held my interest despite some very slow parts. The four narrators were of uneven quality and the story itself got bogs down and should have been a lot shorter. overall it was a decent mystery.

Slow start but gathered momentum towards the end

Slow start and somewhat predictable, the characters comments seemed sarcastic or not conducive with the events that were unfolding or what you’d expect an individual to be feeling/reacting etc. Plot seemed far fetched.
