Publisher's Summary

While war rages in Thameland, other battles begin.

With his first year complete, Alex Roth has made a discovery that could change his kingdom forever.

As the university prepares for an expedition to Thameland, Alex makes himself ready by growing stronger, taking summer courses on magic and spending time with his new friends and family.

But conspiracy brews in Generasi. Demonic attacks target the expedition, and as the city prepares for its annual Games of Roal, Alex must make sure that his own secrets don’t come back to bite him.

At least he has family and a new relationship to calm his nerves.

Until an unexpected visit throws his whole summer into disarray.

There is no rest for the wicked. Or foolish.

In the third book of the best-selling series, continue your fantastical journey into a coming-of-age magic-academy fantasy with a weak-to-strong progression into power, a setting inspired by D&D, detailed world-building, and magical science, action, comedy, slice-of-life, and GameLit elements.

Can’t Wait For The Next One

Well, I am very surprised, but I have a new author to add to my favourites list! I am sad that I will have to wait impatiently for the next book…lol.

An enjoyable continuation

The story keeps up the pace set by first two books and I'd say that the writing even improves a little, though there are still some rough patches - eventually, the banter becomes tired since it tends to follow the same pattern.
That aside, while a major plot point from previous books is resolved, I don't personally feel it was very satisfying, which was disappointing. This book feels very much like the beach episode - things are happening and they're fun to listen to, but most of it doesn't feel like it'll matter going forward. I want to be clear that I still enjoyed this entry to the series, I just want to call out that a big chunk of it is whip creme on the proverbial pie - sweet, enjoyable, but not of substance and distinctly, not pie.
Still, I think it's a good break - not everything has to be end of the world all the time, that'd be exhausting. We get to see Alex and the gang growing up and reckoning a bit with what that means, some kaiju fighting, and a bit of a tournament arc and we all love those.
Looking forward to the next one.

Great series

I had a little trouble getting through the first book as it was a bit slow, glad I kept reading because the 2nd and 3rd books were great. Looking forward to #4

Everything good, but terrible sound effects

The narrator is great. Very immersive. But then keeps saying skrrrt, boom, scratch, voom, bang...etc.
It's really breaks immersion, and sounds stupid.

I really like this series

Travis is a delight as always. This series is a perfect example of a magical world/school of how it would go if more protagonists were rational people. I won't spoil what I mean, but it's wonderful.
