Publisher's Summary

I’ve escaped from a nest of backbiting nobles…only to fall into a whole city of them!

The Baron Sherazad sent me as far away from Eslant as possible. Now, I’m stuck in the middle of nowhere, in a nest full of enemies, with only a demented mimic and a renegade elf to watch my back.

Arrdeam’s rulers are determined to keep their civilians weak and under control, but that won’t work for me. Me, Melina, and Chester need to grow strong…strong enough to defeat all our enemies and to one day make our way back home to get our revenge. Strong enough to survive the mysterious corruption that’s sweeping through the world.

And if anybody tries to stop us? Well, Chester’s always looking for his next meal.

better than the first one

did better on plot, side characters feel a little more flushed out and less awkward. a couple little editing blips, but nothing debilitating.
Jeff Hayes absolutely kills it as Chester. Soundboothe Theatre always does an amazing job of bringing books to life.

A Decent Sequel

There were some audio issues, words cutting off early. One instance of overlapping audio.

Story wise my biggest issue is the glaring continuity error right off the bat. End of book 1 Melina specifically says that she doesn't know the name of the man who killed her family. Beginning of book 2 both of them magically know the name and its her village as well now. Other than that it was okay.

well listening to the book it feels like their entire words phrases conversations or even scenes missing.

the first book in the series is quite well written as it is the author's first work however this second book has not seen much improvement in terms of the writing style and likely translation I don't know if this was originally written in English but it feels like it was translated over from a different language and whoever that the translations missed half of the story a lot of relevant details are not mentioned a lot of very logical conclusions or avoided to progress the story and it feels very unnatural overall the book is acceptable however the poor execution on behalf of the translators or perhaps the narrators is what's causing it to be subpar
