Carol S. Dweck
About this listen
“Through clever research studies and engaging writing, Dweck illuminates how our beliefs about our capabilities exert tremendous influence on how we learn and which paths we take in life.”—Bill Gates, GatesNotes
“It’s not always the people who start out the smartest who end up the smartest.”
After decades of research, world-renowned Stanford University psychologist Carol S. Dweck, Ph.D., discovered a simple but groundbreaking idea: the power of mindset. In this brilliant book, she shows how success in school, work, sports, the arts, and almost every area of human endeavor can be dramatically influenced by how we think about our talents and abilities. People with a fixed mindset—those who believe that abilities are fixed—are less likely to flourish than those with a growth mindset—those who believe that abilities can be developed. Mindset reveals how great parents, teachers, managers, and athletes can put this idea to use to foster outstanding accomplishment.
In this edition, Dweck offers new insights into her now famous and broadly embraced concept. She introduces a phenomenon she calls false growth mindset and guides people toward adopting a deeper, truer growth mindset. She also expands the mindset concept beyond the individual, applying it to the cultures of groups and organizations. With the right mindset, you can motivate those you lead, teach, and love—to transform their lives and your own.

Viktor E. Frankl was a medical doctor at a psychiatric hospital in 1942 when he became a prisoner in Nazi concentration camps in World War II. In 1946, he published this book about his camp experiences and a method of psychotherapy he developed. Forty-five years later, it was still named one of the most influential books in the United States. Part One describes his three years in four Nazi concentration camps, which took the lives of his wife, father, mother, and brother. He closely observed inmates’ reactions to their situation, as well as how survivors came to terms with their liberation.

People don't buy from people they like. No! Your buyer doesn't care about you or your product or service. It's not your job to overcome objections, it's your buyer's. Closing isn't a skill of good salespeople; it's the skill of weak salespeople. Price isn't the main reason salespeople lose the sale. Gap Selling shreds traditional and closely held sales beliefs that have been hurting salespeople for decades. For years, salespeople have embraced a myriad of sales tactics and belief systems that have unknowingly created many of the issues they have been trying to avoid.

Publisher's Summary
Transform from a fixed mindset to a growth mindset with Mindset: The New Psychology of Success, the New York Times best-selling audiobook. Discover how the understanding of our own abilities can impact our life’s journey.
In this psychology classic, Mindset: The New Psychology of Success, New York Times best-selling author and psychology professor Carol S. Dweck describes her implicit theories on intelligence. Differentiating between a fixed mindset and a growth mindset, the expert developed a theory on how people understand their abilities. Dweck argues that a growth mindset will allow for a less stressful and more successful life.
In Mindset, listeners hear practical advice in a clear, concise, and engaging style, making complex psychological concepts accessible to a wide audience. Dweck’s influences include the works of leading psychologists such as William James, Carl Rogers, and Abraham Maslow, as well as decades of research on motivation and achievement.

I personally had a difficult time trying to get into the rhythm of the narrator’s voice, which was a little too “uptight” for me.
Regardless, I’d listen to the book again, because there are many phenomenal demonstrations of how a growth mindset can help affect change in any number of domains.
