Story
From the internationally best-selling author of the Sword of Truth series comes a new Richard and Kahlan novella. "They are the monsters under the bed when you are little, the shape just caught out of the corner of your eye when you thought you were alone, the shadow of something in a dark corner that surprises you and then isn't there. They stop you dead with a knot of unexpected terror in the pit of your stomach. I think that the star shift has brought us closer to their realm so that they now have the power to step into our world and hurt us."

Publisher's Summary
"'Yes,' Richard said. He gestured over his shoulder without turning to look. "There are two more, back there." Kahlan briefly scanned the dark jumble of rock, but she didn't see any others. Lightly grasping the silver pommel with two fingers, Richard lifted his sword a few inches, checking that it was clear in its scabbard. A last fleeting glimmer of amber light played across his golden cape as he let the sword drop back, in place. In the gathering gloom of dusk, his familiar tall, powerful contour seemed as if it were no more than an apparition made of shadows.
"Just then, two more of the huge birds shot by right overhead. One, wings stretched wide, let out a piercing scream as it banked into a tight gliding turn, circling, once, in assessment of the five people below before stroking its powerful wings to catch its departing comrades in their swift journey west. This night they would find ample food."

tedious
the constant recapping gets very tedious. I understand he is somewhat trying to make these stand alone books, after 8 of them half the book is just recap.

Well written and performance was engaging.
While the storey follows Richard and Kahlan it introduces a side plot that only helps to build on the main story line. If I have one criticism of the story it is the speed of which the book ended. A long read and well developed story line that is wrapped up in the span of two chapters. While the way TG has written for Richard and Kahlan to solve the problems at hand works well it seems summarized, where the build of the problems they face was the entire story.
Overall if you enjoy the series and TG’s works Naked Empire is a great read.

Change of Pace
the story takes us to a smaller scale conflict that can have major implications on the wider war. back is the non-stop repeat of information we have heard a hundred times already. and Jim Bond gives a second acceptable performance.

Still Good
Decent story, but they are starting to get a bit preachy.
Protagonist is getting a bit old.
Either way I love the characters. Rachel is the best

Uggh Jim Bond!
I can't stand this narrator. The only reason I've stuck with it so long was the story was pretty good, and I know the narrator changes after the next book.
this story was super preachy and draaaaaaged on in a few areas C'mon Sam! Take over narrating!
