Publisher's Summary

In this terrifyingly twisted thriller, a young couple discovers the horror held within their newly purchased dream house.

It’s the house of their dreams. Former marine Harry and his wife, Sasha, have packed up their life and their golden retriever, Dash, and fled the corporate rat race to live off the land in rural Idaho. Their breathtaking new home sits on more than forty acres of meadow, aspen trees, and pine forest in the Teton Valley. Even if their friends and family think it’s a strange choice for an up-and-coming pair of urban professionals, Harry and Sasha couldn’t be happier about the future they’re building, all by their lonesome.

That is, until their nearest neighbors, Dan and Lucy Steiner, come bearing more than housewarming gifts. Dan and Lucy warn Harry and Sasha of a malevolent spirit that lives in the valley, one that with every season will haunt them in fresh, ever-more-diabolical ways. At first, it seems like an old wives’ tale. But when spring arrives, so does the first evil manifestation, challenging everything Harry and Sasha thought they knew about the world.

As each season passes, the spirit grows stronger, the land more sinister, and each encounter more dangerous. Will Harry and Sasha learn the true meaning of a forever home before it’s too late? Haunting and bone-chilling, Old Country is a spellbinding debut in the horror genre.

What the critics say

“An extraordinarily assured debut: uncanny yet real, both lyrical and brutal, rich with truth about life and death.”—Michael Rutger, author of The Anomaly
"Action-packed horror... Fans of Stephen King and Paul Tremblay will find this a satisfying escape into the woods."—Kirkus Reviews

Need more

Loved every minute of this novel. Waiting for more from these authors. I'm going to buy the paperback to have for my collection of favourite books.

Phenomenal listen

From the characters to the performance, the imagery of the Tetons and honesty of human faults, this one is a doozy. I loved it. The authors and performers did a wonderful job

Just not a good book

Could not get through this book. The characters are poorly developed, the plot is boring and slow, and every minute drags on.
There is really not spooky or scary about this one, except for the below average writing style.
I could not finish it, but I’m sure I know how it ends.
It’s a return for me.

Everything I wanted in a spooky book!

Amazing story! I hope they turn it into a movie. Narration was great, enough of a back story that I wasn’t left needing more, and it ended in a way that there could be more but leaves you satisfied!

Great listen!

One of my favourite listens so far! The story is well written and engaging. I would have liked to have a more concrete explanation about the mountain ‘spirit’, however; not knowing kept me interested.

Terrifically Scary

I am a fan of horror, particularly Stephen King. This book played like a movie with lots of scares and an evolving story. I listened to this book in 2 days, which is impressive for me.

why can't horror movies be like this

this was a really good book, a slow burner but continuously building to some spooky stuff. maybe it's cause I've only read HP Lovecraft but this was an amazing horror/suspense story. character decisions made me mad at their ignorance of this threat. I've seen every horror movie out there. cheap scares don't get me and the building suspense was definitely spooky in this book. has goosebumps driving a 6h drive at night for sure (at least at one point). definitely worth it, wouldn't mind buying a hard copy, and would love for someone to make this into a movie

Cheesy and pointless

So mad I wasted my credit on this drivel.
Poorly written. Analogies repeated throughout.
I took a chance on the positive reviews but now realize they can only have been written by friends of the authors.
