About this listen

“Brilliantly conceived and plotted... Read this book. You’ll thank me later.” - David Baldacci

The first in the international bestselling series!

Who is Orphan X?

The Nowhere Man is a legendary figure spoken about only in whispers. It’s said that when he’s reached by the truly desperate and deserving, the Nowhere Man can and will do anything to protect and save them. But he’s not merely a legend.

“Excellent...A smart, stylish, state-of-the-art thriller...might give Lee Child’s Jack Reacher books a run for their money.” - The Washington Post

Evan Smoak is a man with skills, resources, and a personal mission to help those with nowhere else to turn. He’s also a man with a dangerous past. Chosen as a child, he was raised and trained as an Orphan, an off-the-books black box program designed to create the perfect deniable intelligence asset: An assassin. Evan was Orphan X - until he broke with the program and used everything he learned to disappear. But now someone is on his tail. Someone with similar skills and training who will exploit Evan’s secret new identity as the Nowhere Man to eliminate him.

“Hurwitz melds nonstop action and high-tech gadgetry...in this excellent series opener.” - Publishers Weekly (starred review)

This was my second read as I am anticipating the next book in the series by listening to all previous books again. Still so good. Excellent narration!

I am going to stick with it as the story is good and makes the listener want to find out what happens, however the narrator is just not for me. The combination of melodramatic detail that is intrinsic to a novel of this genre with this narrators' style makes me cringe to the point where I almost want to stop listening. It's the same problem I have with the Clive Cussler novels (same narrator) where I find the plots and stories interesting, but I can't enjoy the listening experience because the syrupy, over the top almost worshippy delivery of the narrator transports it to spoof territory.

I'm going to stick with it, but....

to a hero story. I very much enjoyed this story because it wasn't presented in a standard hero delivery. it gave action and a little mystery with heart thrown in for good measure

a different approach......

I really liked this book and would recommend but the mention of Jordan Peterson was gross. The guy is a fucknuckle of the highest order. Still, the listen is very worthwhile even if there are some eye rolling moments.

Captivating listen

This is great audiobook, with good world building and a plot that made me want to read on, if somewhat hard to believe at times. There are some very intricate combat scenes, and characters that I can love, despise, and mourn and cheer for. Scott Brick really brings the story to audiobook to life with a masterful performance.

Great audiobook!
