Publisher's Summary

Pop star Leontyne Blake might sing about love, but she stopped believing in it a long time ago. What women want is her image, not the real her. When her father has a stroke, she flees the spotlight and returns to her tiny Missouri hometown.

In her childhood home, she meets small-town nurse Holly Drummond, who isn't impressed by Leo's fame at all. That isn't the only thing that makes Holly different from other women. She's also asexual. For her, dating is a minefield of expectations that she has decided to avoid.

Can the tentative friendship between a burned-out pop star and a woman not interested in sex develop into something more despite their diverse expectations?

Contains mature themes.

Awesome

what a great book and story, not your typical romance story but shows the different side of how people feel and types of sexuality. i have never read a story like this that brings to light how people feel about themselves and differences, it was excellent.

for all ace or those curious about it

I'm not ace, but I've had very indepth conversations with ace friends about their orientation before. I really think this is worth a shot for people looking for representation or to understand asexuality, especially because Holly explains the asexual and/or aromantic spectrum outside herself some. And besides that, I never expected to identify with an ace character falling in love but I totally did. I think it's amazing Jae could represent that in a way that an allosexual person (ie someone interested in sex) could identify with. I have read one other sapphic romance with an ace character and it didn't stir me like this. Between Holly experiencing romantic attraction (even without sexual attraction), being cuddly, the depth of Leo and Holly's need for one another for support, and their pure acceptance of one another.... It's love I can identify with. Some ace and/or aro love I can't identify with-- I can only accept as working for others.

Spoiler Alert...

This book should come with a disclaimer that it may in fact break your heart should you have experienced a recent parallel experience, but that is what makes Jae great right?
Overall, it is both surprising and informative with the trademark bypass around the expected....
The narration was effective at bringing the characters to life. I was not sure I even wanted to like them in the beginning, but that was then. . .

Departure from the norm, in a good way.

This story didn’t capture me at first, but then it surprised me, a number of times. Worthwhile for the romance, character development and for learning more about asexually, which wasn’t, in this book, at all what I understood it to be.

The Representation I never knew I needed!

I want to send this book to anyone who doesn't understand what I mean when I try to explain being Ace. Holly perfectly summed up my own experience and I never though I would be able to relate to a character in a Sapphic Romance like this. Thank you for putting the Ace experience into words and making it feel more normalized.

Jae's best story. Period.

This is the pinnacle of Jae's storytelling. Fun story, excellent asexual representation and Angela Dawe knocked it out of the park. Worth your time.

Best narrated series!

I have listened to this audio book twice now, and I still can't get enough! All the books in this series so far are really well written and were meant to be narrated by Angela Dawe! I think this series contains the best narrated books I have ever listened to! Great work!
