Although clinical research has been conducted on narcissism as a disorder, less is known about its effects on victims who are in toxic relationships with partners with Narcissistic Personality Disorder. Individuals with this disorder engage in chronic devaluation and manipulation of their partners, a psychological and emotional phenomenon known as "narcissistic abuse". Unfortunately, the full extent of what narcissistic abuse entails is not taught in any psychology class or diagnostic manual.

A life-changing audiobook for anyone trapped in an unhealthy marriage or relationship. Divorce isn’t such a tragedy. A tragedy is staying in an unhappy marriage, teaching your children the wrong things about love. Nobody ever died of divorce. It is difficult to get divorced or break up with a narcissist without someone who has been through the same experiences you have. Otherwise, you may make costly financial mistakes by hiring the wrong attorney or giving away your assets, all because you don’t know any better.

Publisher's Summary
Pathological mind games. Covert and overt put-downs. Triangulation. Gaslighting. Projection. These are the manipulative tactics survivors of malignant narcissists are unfortunately all too familiar with. As victims of silent crimes where the perpetrators are rarely held accountable, survivors of narcissistic abuse have lived in a war zone of epic proportions, enduring an abuse cycle of love-bombing and devaluation - psychological violence on steroids. From how to heal our addiction to the narcissist to how to recognize a covert narcissist, Shahida Arabi's articles on narcissistic abuse have gained renown as some of the most accurate and in-depth depictions of this terrifying trauma, resonating with millions of survivors all over the world and receiving endorsements from numerous mental health professionals. In this essay compilation, listeners can enjoy some of her most popular articles as well as new thought pieces on narcissistic abuse: what therapists have to say about malignant narcissists and how children of narcissistic parents can become trapped in the trauma repetition cycle. Survivors are offered new insights on what it means to be both a survivor and a thriver of covert manipulation and trauma. Power teaches us that it is important to not only understand the tactics of toxic personalities but also to recognize and combat the effects of narcissistic abuse; it guides the survivor to learning, growing, healing and most importantly of all - owning their agency to rebuild their lives and transform their powerlessness into victory.

READ THIS BOOK!
If you've made it this far, you have to read this book. It took me 40 years to get to this point and although it was the biggest shock to my system to have a perfect stranger detail everything I have ever lived, it was the most eye opening experience of my life. I won't lie there were times where I was curled up in the fetal position as everything clicked, but I am so grateful that someone pointed me in the right direction, so I can begin to heal myself.
I credit the author, Shahida Arabi, for helping to save me from the hell that had become my life.
I am much better for it and highly recommend it as a starting point.
The heavy work to come WILL set you free.

What you may not know you needed.
I just got out of an abusive relationship and due to covid happening right after havent had the means to go to therapy. ( by no means is this a replacement for therapy ) but this book has helped me alot and is still helping. I highly recomend it. it helps identify whos a narscasist and helps you realize what narsacistic behavior is and helps you learn what not to do to others as what was done to you. after i got out of my relarionship i couldnt trust my own oponion on people afriad to get abused again but this helps you identify those people and build a confidence in yourself again. It opens your mind up and helps you learn to love yourself again and feel not alone. It also gives you insight on how to heal and many rescources to scource out for support and healing. Also just want to say that if you are here looking at this for self help from narsacistic abuse;you are loved and im proud of you, it will get better.

One of the Best!
I've read Lundy Bancroft and Ramani Durvasula, both of whose writings I never tire of. However, this is an awesome book written with empathy and thorough detail. information is very organized and it covers a full range of explorations as much as humanly possible. I personally found the speed of the reader quite fast but you can slow it down just a tad so it still sounds natural. It's amazing that Shahida writes this with her own personal experience as a motivating factor; however it's a thoroughly researched book and not at all a laywoman's account. Shahida is quite educated on the subject. I believe that quite possibly her personal experience was a motivating factor for her drive to gain more knowledge and share it with others. In this book she definitely covers many facets not deeply explored by other writers of this topic. Extremely helpful, validating, healing and motivating. Don't miss it!

A “Powerful” book
I heard so much confirmation of what I was going through my whole life, including now. Even things I had previously only thought in my own head as a contrary response to a couple things other narcissistic abuse experts have said. It’s an extremely affirming, uplifting and emotionally supportive book, I highly recommend it. In fact, after a bit of time passes to allow what I am processing from it to fully absorb, I will re-listen to it in order to absorb more of the caring and loving support and information it provides that I was not able to absorb in and process all at one time.
