Publisher's Summary

A New York Times best seller!

They burned her home.

They stole her brother and sister.

But vengeance is following.

Shy South hoped to bury her bloody past and ride away smiling, but she'll have to sharpen up some bad old ways to get her family back, and she's not a woman to flinch from what needs doing. She sets off in pursuit with only a pair of oxen and her cowardly old step father Lamb for company. But it turns out Lamb's buried a bloody past of his own. And out in the lawless Far Country the past never stays buried.

Their journey will take them across the barren plains to a frontier town gripped by gold fever, through feud, duel and massacre, high into the unmapped mountains to a reckoning with the Ghosts. Even worse, it will force them into an alliance with Nicomo Cosca, infamous soldier of fortune, and his feckless lawyer Temple, two men no one should ever have to trust....

Red Country takes place in the same world as the First Law trilogy, Best Served Cold, and The Heroes. This novel also represents the return of Logen Ninefingers, one of Abercrombie's most beloved characters.

Just Amazing

There is only one problem with Joe Abercrombie novels combined with the voice talent of Steven Pacey, that is when your finished them and have to move on all other books become a disappointment.

Lamb, Shivers, and Shy.

The two returning characters are not only two of the best in the series, but two of the best in all of fantasy and literature besides. The way Abercrombie sews the seeds early in the novel she he might reap the rewards later is a master class in writing. The tension is palpable, and no line of dialogue or description or character goes wasted. Every single moment or quirk has a purpose, a payoff, and it all leads us to the moment at the very end of the novel. A truly harrowing scene. A truly phenomenal book, but can be slow in parts, so a 4/5 on story while still being a 5/5 overall simply for the way it left me feeling.

Really liked this one

I’m working my way through all the First Law World Series. I’m glad I did it order as this was very enjoyable continuation of the story arc. A couple of notable characters from previous books play significant roles. Another solid read by JA.

Another great one

Another great story from Joe Abercrombie, and another phenomenal performance by Steven Pacey. If you like any of the other books in this world, you’ll probably like this one.

Another great listen

Another great work by author and narrator. Mixing old familiar characters with new ones in a great tale.

Western tale with an abecrombie twist

Probably the least depressing of his books so far and I don't say that as a mean thing but as a refreshing change from his typically dark narratives but like that's not a bad thing his books are all Amazing.

One of my favourites

The last couple books I liked, but I didn’t find them to be anything special. This one on the other hand I enjoyed quite a bit. I definitely recommend it.

It Just Keeps Getting Better

This is a series review for the following books:

- The Blade Itself
- Before They Are Hanged
- Last Argument Of Kings
- Best Served Cold
- The Heroes
- Red Country
- Sharp Ends (read chronologically w.r.t. the series)
- A Little Hatred
- The Trouble With Peace
- The Wisdom Of Crowds

I can say with confidence that this is among the best stories I've had the pleasure of experiencing. Author Joe Abercrombie has crafted a politically and morally intricate world where every detail, large or small, matters. Inhabiting this world are truly human characters who you'll laugh, dread, and triumph alongside in their efforts to overcome the Great Leveller's somber inevitability. Narrator Steven Pacey brings these characters to life, giving each a distinct voice and demeanor while consistently nailing the tones and puches thrown by Joe Abercrombie's writing. I hope to see the continued collaboration of this genius duo.

Brilliant

Loved it. Steven Pacey is an amazing narrator as always. I think Steven Pacey is probably my favorite audible narrator ( or a close tie with Michael Kramer). The story is a masterful blend of Western and Fantasy. This book was unique and I've never read such a unique blend of genres. Read the First Law trilogy and the two prior standalones first though as everything is connected. I think Lamb/ Logan is my favorite Fantasy character.
