Publisher's Summary

A troubled young mother yearns for a shot at redemption in this heartbreaking yet hopeful story from #1 New York Times bestselling author Colleen Hoover.

After serving five years in prison for a tragic mistake, Kenna Rowan returns to the town where it all went wrong, hoping to reunite with her four-year-old daughter. But the bridges Kenna burned are proving impossible to rebuild. Everyone in her daughter’s life is determined to shut Kenna out, no matter how hard she works to prove herself.

The only person who hasn’t closed the door on her completely is Ledger Ward, a local bar owner and one of the few remaining links to Kenna’s daughter. But if anyone were to discover how Ledger is slowly becoming an important part of Kenna’s life, both would risk losing the trust of everyone important to them.

The two form a connection despite the pressure surrounding them, but as their romance grows, so does the risk. Kenna must find a way to absolve the mistakes of her past in order to build a future out of hope and healing.

What the critics say

“Narrators Brittany Pressley and Ryan West depict a story of triumph in a hopeless situation.… The audiobook has excellent pacing and gives equal attention to the relationships among Kenna, Ledger, and Diem. Pressley so expertly illustrates Kenna's desperation that listeners will hope for her redemption. While the two narrators have opposite approaches, West as gruff Ledger and Pressley as wilted Kenna, they complement each other as the audiobook progresses.”AudioFile Magazine

“The narration of Hoover's novel is split between Kenna's and Ledger's perspectives, skillfully brought to life in the audiobook by Brittany Pressley and Ryan West. A contemporary romance with wide appeal. Hoover's novel realistically depicts reactions to heartache, and the narrators' performances underscore the relatability of her characters.”Library Journal

“Hoover delves deep into grief and guilt to create a multifaceted redemption story for a cast of characters who fight as fiercely as they love. Fans won’t be disappointed.”Publishers Weekly

OMGoodness so good!

I’m not crying you’re crying! This is up there with It Ends with Us and Maybe Someday. This is such a good story. It really demonstrates trauma, depression, and worthlessness. I loved the narrators especially Brittany. It is definitely worth the read and credit. Love love love

Amazing!!

A great tearjerker story that I couldn’t stop listening to. My first from this author and excited to dig into more. I am a multiple time reader from only a couple of authors and I have a feeling she will be one. The greatest feeling is when you newly discover an author and get to experience all of their books for the first time!

don't skip this one!

This is one of the best books I've read (listened to actually) by far. I wasn't late for work once because I couldn't wait to jump into my truck to finish off where I left off. It's definitely a rollercoaster of emotions but in a good way. It's also eye opening to how impactful tunnel vision can be, although you can see why that would happen under these circumstances. You won't be disappointed by this book.

Obnoxious characters ridiculous storyline

There is nothing believable in this story. The characters are all one dimensional and their choices make no sense. You don’t root for these characters, and the male lead is like a caricature of a “desirable man” and his dialogue is unrealistic to the point of hilarity.

Well written book

I’ve read all of Colleen Hoover’s books and am a huge fan of her style of writing. This particular book did not disappoint and held true to her writing style. The plot was solid, the characters were very relatable and the overall storytelling process was well-done. If you are a Colleen Hoover fan or just looking for a good book to start reading from her, this is a good start. There of course is tragedy in the book as there is in almost all of her books, but this one had a good sense of hope that keeps you reading. Overall enjoyable read.

Oh my weary heart..

Well, It’s a little hard to see what I am typing through the tears that have been flowing out of my eyes for the past two hours but what an emotional and incredible journey that Colleen Hoover just took me on. I am not sure how it’s possible but I feel like the learning curve I was exposed to of loss and perception in this book has helped shape my mind a little. Thank you Colleen Hoover! ❤️❤️

Great book

I wish the voices were more natural - I felt like the male voice for Ledger was whispering like Batman the whole time. Great listen though, loved it !

I have read all the books by Colleen Hoover

I loved this story. It didn't make me cry like most of her books do, but it was still great, very heartfelt.

So cheesy....

Nice-ish story but a little too cheesy. Plus there is no twist, no unexpected turn of events which makes the story quite flat and boring
