Publisher's Summary

An instant New York Times best seller!

USA Today's top 100 books to read while stuck at home social distancing

"No-one does suburban paranoia like Shari Lapena - this slowly unfurling nightmare will have you biting your nails until the end." (Ruth Ware, number-one New York Times best-selling author of The Woman in Cabin 10

The new domestic suspense novel from New York Times best-selling author of The Couple Next Door, A Stranger in the House, and An Unwanted Guest, Shari Lapena

Maybe you don't know your neighbors as well as you thought you did....

"This is a very difficult letter to write. I hope you will not hate us too much.... My son broke into your home recently while you were out."

In a quiet, leafy suburb in upstate New York, a teenager has been sneaking into houses - and into the owners' computers as well - learning their secrets, and maybe sharing some of them, too.

Who is he, and what might he have uncovered? After two anonymous letters are received, whispers start to circulate, and suspicion mounts. And when a woman down the street is found murdered, the tension reaches the breaking point. Who killed her? Who knows more than they're telling? And how far will all these very nice people go to protect their own secrets?

In this neighborhood, it's not just the husbands and wives who play games. Here, everyone in the family has something to hide....

You never really know what people are capable of.

What the critics say

"Slyly plotted...Lapena skillfully maximizes suspense with her dual story lines that eventually collide, as well as some deft misdirection...many fans of domestic suspense will be satisfied.” (Publishers Weekly)

"Poised and chilling.” (Wall Street Journal)

Someone We Know is a tour de force of thriller writing. Shari Lapena proves yet again that she is the mistress of the pacy plot, cliff edge tension and menacing suburban claustrophobia. Fans will be delighted and if you haven’t read her books yet, then why on earth not?” (Gilly Macmillan, New York Times best-selling author of The Nanny)

Great character development

Character development is very important to me, and this author does that very well. Several different characters that are all believable. Story is interesting but lags in a few places. Overall, well done and a good listen on audible.

Why a cliff hanger ending?

This seems to be a theme with this author. Though these are stand alone novels with no series planned, they end on a cliff hanger. The novel itself was great until that point. Why do that?

WHO DONE IT?

It was ok! It was not my favorite storyline as it seemed to be a basic story of who did what.

performance was ok, some characters or rather most characters had the same sounding voice.

If I had the choice to listen again, I would pass!
I finished the book just so I wouldn't waste my 1 credit!

The last few books I've learned the hard way that you shouldn't rely on the reviews alone or the sample provided. Take an extra few minutes and search for more details and better reviews on other platforms before buying a book!

Hold on tight

At first it was a bit tricky to keep track of who is who, but as the story takes shape you become familiar with who everyone is. Shari Lapena has a style, if you’ve read/listened before, you will leave this story with the same emotional turmoil you have her previous books. Great twists! I had no idea until the end.

Great story. Hard to listen to narration

This book , like all of Shari’s , are unpredictable. I just wish she used better narrators.
She is a wonderful writer. One of the best I’ve read.
