The storm embodies destruction, and now, so does Kade Noelstra.

On the worst day of his life, Kade's system awakened, giving him the power of a raging storm.

It came too late to save his stepfather, but it's enough to let Kade follow in his footsteps and keep the promises he made to his family that day. Yet the Unique skill he awakened is as strong as it is dangerous—for him and everyone around him. Most people would abandon a skill that unpredictable. Kade has other plans.

Skills can be merged. Storms can be tamed. The system’s Laws can be learned. All Kade has to do is clear portals like his stepfather, gather the cores from the monsters within, and complete the skill build he’s been planning for months. But the first core he uses opens up a brand-new path to power, and the speed of his growth draws unwanted attention, both human and otherwise.

He can't afford to slow down. The portals grow ever more numerous, and the people he cares about are in danger.

He'll forge his lightning into a blade, no matter who or what tries to stop him.

Setting is the standard portal apocalyse (e.g. Solo Leveling), MC was very competent, a little headstrong, but that actually makes the story more interesting. His progression is very interesting, but it's very slow. This first book consists of him just assembling his build while at lowest rank. I prefer the pace to be a little faster.

slow burn

slow-ish burn, still has a decent amount of action. characters are well handled.

my only gripe would be the female VA is kind of deadpan with all of her characters. Like she talks slow and clearly reading from a page, not deal breakibgly though. Just dull.

all in all it does what it says on the tin. modern day portal break, dealing with life friends and opportunistic bastards.

good start

Extremely average, maybe a bit below but it may hit the spot if your addicted to litrpg.

Overall enjoyed the writing and action bits, fights were good and the story progression was good.

places where it falls short is that EVERYTHING revolves around the MC. If something goes wrong it's the MC that finds it, if something goes right it's because of the MC, I'm half convinced the sun only rises because the MC wakes up.

Also, it's pretty trippy which isn't necessarily a bad thing but the MC has "rage" problems and constantly goes into this esoteric "in the fight zone" or something like that.

Then there is the fact that whenever he's doing something he ALWAYS has to emphasize that he's doing this for his dead dad and to protect his sister.

All in all I found the little annoyances touch to continue after book 2 but honestly not that bad if your just looking for some progression and action.

Not for everyone but may hit that spot if you don't set you expectations to high
