It was good to return to the urban fantasy world of Alex Verus and his fellow mages! It had been a while and though it took me a little bit to remember certain details, once I returned to the world, I was fully immersed again.

In TAKEN, Alex is trying to advance the studies of his apprentice, Luna, only to encounter new mages with secrets and deadly pursuers.

Alex is still a great hero for these books: Capable of many things but hardly invincible or all-knowing. Luna is easy to root for as his trainee, and the new characters have personality and power that add to the story.

As with the rest of the books so far, there is a solid balance between character moments, mystery, and action. I enjoyed the twists, turns, and thrills, and look forward to seeing the next bout of trouble that Alex gets himself into. Recommended for urban fantasy lovers and anyone who likes magicians!
