Publisher's Summary

“Absolutely brilliant!” (Jonathan Maberry, New York Times best-selling author)

The new supernatural thriller from New York Times best-selling author Peter Clines

You can still owe the dead.

Hector was the best of the best. A government operative who could bring armies to a halt and nations to their knees. But when his own country betrayed him, he dropped off the grid and picked up the first of many bottles.

Natalie can’t remember much of her life before her family brought her to the US, but she remembers the cages. And getting taken away to the Project with dozens of other young children to become part of their nightmarish experiments. That’s how she ended up with the ghost of a dead secret agent stuck in her head.

And Hector owes Natalie’s ghost a big favor.

Now Hector and Natalie are on the run from an army of killers sent to retrieve her. Because the people behind the Project are willing to risk almost anything to get Natalie back and complete their experiments.

It was fine

A bit repetitive and predictable. Good concept, but the story had some plot holes that were a bit much for me. I liked the 2 main characters. Decent narrator.

Reminds me of early Stephen King

This is my kind of weird horror blended with mystery and suspense. The action starts early and never lets up. I loved it but I can understand why it’s not for everyone. It’s also super-gross and not for anyone with a weak stomach. The narrator was excellent and did a fantastic job of bringing the characters to life.

Starts out great…

But loses steam after awhile. Gets into way too much vomiting of bugs. Good reader - easy to listen to.

Gripping storytelling

Couldn't be happier that Clines got inspired by a B movie and took the time to write this. I really hope Pedro Pascal picks this one up...

11 meets Jason Bourne

Imagine if Eleven from "Stranger Things" didn't bump into a bunch of RPG nerd kids but instead ran into Jason Bourne and you pretty much have the story of "The Broken Room". This is the fourth or fifth novel I've listened to from Peter Clines and I'm a big fan of how his stories pull you right in with a dynamite HOOK. If you aren't hooked after the first chapter of this book then you might want to have your heart checked for inactivity!

That being said, this is a little more "action packed" than the other Clines' novels that I've read. If I have any criticism I'd say that the action gets a little overwhelming in the third act. Not that it drags... but just that it's a bit much and becomes a 'tiny bit monotonous' in comparison to the wonder and curiosity in the initial two thirds of the story. But this only after having thought about the story once I finished it, and is such a small concern.

If you liked Clines' stuff in the past you, then will NOT BE DISAPOINTED!

Loved it!

Loved it.
Buckle up, that's action driven from the start. Characters are well made with a good depth to them. Humor well placed.
I recommend.

I love this Novel

What an amazing roller coaster, highly entertaining and gripping. I was hooked right away, and stayed up way too late a few nights just to hear another chapter. The narrator did a wonderful job conveying the feeling of the story as well as the unsettling.

Excellent as always

Peter Clines is an amazing writer. I love his works and the strangeness they entail.
