Publisher's Summary

In order to reclaim her throne and save her people, an ousted queen must join forces with a young warrior in the second book of this "relentlessly gripping, brilliant" epic fantasy series from a breakout author (James Islington).

Tau and his Queen, desperate to delay the impending attack on the capital by the indigenous people of Xidda, craft a dangerous plan. If Tau succeeds, the Queen will have the time she needs to assemble her forces and launch an all out assault on her own capital city, where her sister is being propped up as the "true" Queen of the Omehi.

If the city can be taken, if Tsiora can reclaim her throne, and if she can reunite her people then the Omehi have a chance to survive the onslaught.

Not My Usual Read...

I almost turned it off in the first chapters because I'm not huge on violence. I am SO GLAD I didn't! The imagery is fantastic and the characters are interesting and complex. I've read Rage of Dragons and Fires of Vengeance twice in the last 2 months because I can't wait for book 3! The anticipation is worse than waiting for a new season of a series to binge. So proud that Evan Winter is Canadian! What talent! Prentice Onayemi is an absolute marvel to listen to. I don't know how he keeps each character straight. I rave to everyone I know & will likely lose friend because I will never, ever stop!

Very much enjoyed

Spoiler

Found it very interesting Tao’s revenge only brings him more pain and turmoil. I still agree with his purpose but shows putting more pain out in the world can bring more pain to oneself, even those as strong as Tao.

A Fierce Sequel

Another action-packed story filled with battles, vengeance, demons, and determined warriors. I enjoyed this sequel immensely and am eagerly awaiting the next book.

The story follows Tau Solarin in his new position as Champion to the queen as she tries to establish and reclaim her authority. Along the way, Tau must battle demons both internally and externally. While I really liked RAGE, its sequel shines even brighter. The story focuses more on Tau as a character and his complex interactions with friends, allies, and potential lovers. In FIRES, I feel like we truly get to know him and see his progression as he pushes himself to the breaking point.

I also enjoyed the brief glimpses we had into the minds of other characters connected to Tau. It made the story fresh and added some unpredictability. I was glad to spend more time with side characters, since they seamlessly wove into Tau's story. Not only did they show him his strengths, they added to his weaknesses, creating a more complex hero.

The action is once again, top-notch. It's brutal, intense, and leads to some harrowing moments. The story also goes deeper into the lore of the world and even the demons. It creates a more immersive feel and has me eager to learn more.

FIRES is a thrilling sequel filled with complicated characters, rich world building, pulse pounding action, and a story as fierce as it is emotional. Great for anyone who loves epic high fantasy adventures!

Best series I've ever read

This book arguably is even better than the 1st book. I couldn't put either down. So good I'm going to read and listen to them again. Can't wait for the next book!

Not black enough.

The accents were good. but I would of liked a deeper voice for narration. fifteen
