Story
Tricked into a world of banished gods, demons, goblins, sprites and magic, Richter must learn to meet the perils of The Land and begin to forge his own kingdom. Actions have consequences across The Land, with powerful creatures and factions now hell-bent on Richter's destruction. Can Richter forge allegiances to survive this harsh and unforgiving world or will he fall to the dark denizens of this ancient and unforgiving realm? A tale to shake "The Land" itself, measuring 10/10 on the Richter scale, how will Richter's choices shape the future of The Land and all who reside in it?

Story
For eons, conquering dungeons has been the most efficient way to become a strong adventurer. Although not everything is as straightforward as it seems. Several questions have always plagued the minds of those who enter these mythical places of power: why are there so many monsters? Where do the amazing weaponry and heavy gold coins come from? Why does the very air fill with life-giving energies? Cal has all of the answers to these age-old questions, for a very simple reason. He is a Dungeon Heart.

The ancient magic of wizards was anything but dark. It was the enlightenment that lifted humanity from the squalor of superstition, and the worship of fell spirits and capricious gods, but those days are gone. The shining glory of the sorcerers burned away the subtlety of wisdom, replacing it with easy power, held only in the hands of the elite - a new age built upon the elemental supremacy of aristocrats and the ignorance of the masses.

An inn is a place to rest, a place to talk and share stories, a place to find adventure, or a starting ground for quests and legends. It is in this world, at least. To Erin Solstice, an inn seems like a medieval relic from the past. But here she is, running from Goblins and trying to survive in a world full of monsters and magic. She’d be more excited about all of this if everything wasn’t trying to kill her. But an inn is what she’s found, and so that’s what she becomes; an innkeeper, who serves drinks to heroes and monsters. Mostly monsters. But it’s a living, right?

Welcome my friends!
Welcome...to “The Land"!
The battle of the dead was won, but at a great cost. Sion, leader of the Mist Village, was left with only pain and regret as Richter was claimed by the abyss.
What no one but the abandoned chaos seed knows is that he narrowly avoided the curse of the lich Singh, a curse that still hangs above his head. Now, surrounded by miles of darkness and tons of crushing rock, Richter has to find his way back into the light.
The only problem is that this monster of a man is being pursued by monsters, a demon, and his own foolish choices. Faced with all the dangers of the deep dark, what will Richter say when the buried horrors of The Land come a calling and asked if he's paid his dues?
Well he'll look right back, stare that horror in the eye, and say, "Yes sir, the check is in the mail!"
Welcome back my friends! Welcome back...to The Land!

16 Hours of nothing...
Big fan of the series and love the story; except this sixteen hour cone of verbal diarrhea...
It was like walking in circles while waiting for your buddy to level up for the entire game session. Then a literal poop scene and capped off by a cliffhanger ending.
I couldn't believe it had ended after hours of book keeping and trait descriptions.
There was almost no storytelling here, just a series of perfect coincidences that quickly became so tedious it took any suspense out of it. I wouldn't have been surprised if the next trait he unlocks is a portal home that uses 2 sticks and that one green pebble he picked up 8 pages ago...
Should have been a free download as a thank you to the fans for being patient. I will definitely not be preordering in the future.

honestly this is not my favourite of the series. some of the stat scenes drag on a little too long. but as always, Nick's narration makes it way better and keeps me attached to the book untill it's over.
the series itself is amazing but this is definitely not the best book in it

Real crappy Novella!!! Not negative just my own opinion
In my own opinion this book was an attempt to make his fans happy for missing previously promised release dates for this book. In fact I believe the previous times Aleron promised a release date he hadn’t even started on book 8, this book feels as if he slammed it together over a drunk weekend. Granted the guy is probably busy and I’m sure crazy fans wanting the next book in the series can be overwhelming. Side note before I get into this abomination of a book. Some have mentioned Aleron did this book as a money grab! It’s possible but I doubt it, anyways!!!
This book has little to no character or plot development. This book is a bloody disaster, I mean come on you Sod Aleron, you are better than this. Look heres a comparison for this so called book 8 which is actually a real bad Novella, if you are or were a gamer—-> Do you remember the magic days of Diablo 2 and the much better Lords of Destruction? Yeah those were great days. Now fast forward to 2012, yep the travesty that became Diablo 3 and all the shat that was. Well thats how book 8 is from the rest of the series, I mean how do you go from a great book like 7 to this crap?? How Aleron??
Go ahead and buy this book like I did, even know there are thousands of reviews similar to the one I just wrote. But you know what, we have the option to return book for a full refund which is what I’m going to do right After I hit that submit button.
This is the second book Ive returned out of over 250 books I currently own. I mean crap, the other book I returned was an unknown author that seemed to have a 50IQ and probably couldn’t write out a Chinese food menu. That should about sum up how bad this book is, oh and if yer wondering about my grammar? Haha I don’t really care, I aint got no development editor like Aleron does.
Don’t forget to give me a 5 star review wherever you do that... bye

It is like he had no idea how to write this book so he just made it into a big filler quest and doesn't even finish it! A big waste of time. The only upside was the Nick reading the book.

an intro to an unwritten book
I was 3/4 through when I realized nothing had really happened and the end was rapidly approaching. Then it ended with nothing really happening. just a bunch of stay updates and skills with some extra game mechanics rolled in. I'd have been ok it it ended there, and I found I was only a third in. but nope, just a cliffhanger ending with no satisfactory lead up.

Interesting story but Less “the land” and more “the tunnel”
I’ve enjoyed all of the books in this series so far and this one though enjoyable was far short of what I’ve learned to expect.
Where the rest of the books in Aleron’s Land series consistently develop the world and all its characters while primarily following The main characters journey this entry focuses solely on the protagonist.
There are significant changes to the character in this book which are interesting but take up so much time to process I found myself wanting to skip chapters just to get back to the story.
We are also left with a cliff hanger regarding significant side characters right off the bat that are not resolved or even discussed further in to the story.
Nick Podohl’s narration is fantastic but even with such a great voice actor hearing just the one characters perspective for so long gets dull by the end.
5 star performance

Seriously!!??
Aleron Kong has always seemed like a lazy writer with how he power levels Rictor and gives him all these amazing items without any explanation but despite this he has managed to produce 7 very good books in the chaos seeds saga....this book however is not one of them.
This book falls far far short of the enjoyment of the other books and is merely listening to stats the whole book and the answers Aleron continues to come up with for Rictors power seems weaker and weaker and leaves more questions then answers.
This book feels more like an unfinished first draft then a finished copy......very unimpressed

Book 7 was definitely my favourite in the series and i sincerely hoped the win train would continue. however everything i loved about the series was exempt from this one.
I understand that stories have lulls, and it's fun to witness your protagonist in different situations but none of these interested me.
A quarter of the book is leveling up, but he doesn't use what he'd learned in interesting ways. I will read hos next one but my expectations have most defintely soured

Let me start off by saying I absolutely love this series, but this book has been the biggest disappointment yet!! And even worse we waited for over a year to get it! Then on top of that he spits in all our faces by adding in the first chapter of his new series at the end.... which sucks!!! I think I speak for a lot of people when I say Aleron DO BETTER!!

Nick can't make a bad book better unfortunately
I bought this against my better judgement. I read this in text as soon as it came out. It's just well a failure. It focuses solely on the main character without progressing any other storyline. Even then the storyline doesn't progress. Good editing could have reduced this literary vomit to 3 or 4 hours at most. Just pass. Read a summary and wait for a better chapter this one is inconsequential. Also be aware that some reviews might not be objective listeners...I'm all about this series I love it but I'm not a fan of brigideries...and each chapter should be judged by it's own merits, and thus one doesn't cut it

Great performance but straight money grab garbage
I’ve like all of this series up till now. I’ve never written a review till this book made me so angry. All it is, is a cash grab dumpster book. It’s 15 hrs of stats and skill points with 20 mins of story/action. DO NOT waste your precious dollars on this. Aleron Kong you are a sellout. This book did not advance the story at all. The entire book he doesn’t even progress out of the dungeon/cave he was stuck in the last book. This is trash stat filler content for a quick buck. Do not support this awful excuse for a book.

This book is lack luster, all of the set up and hype built up from the last book falls flat. some cool stuff happens but its mostly promts. 7 hrs 8n and only a few hours have passed in the story, im dissapointed by the book and there are WAAAY better options. not to mention all other characters are absent in this book.

Very Disappointing
I waited almost 2 yrs for this book. I rate first 7 books 5 stars each. I truly feel cheated with this book. Previous books developed a great group of characters, basically left out of this book. Why include an entire chapter about diaherra? I feel like I was scammed out of my money. I give this story 1 star. Performance I give 5 stars , Podehl is excellent as always. I was so excited when I found out book 8 was coming out, even pre-ordered. I'm extremely disappointed.

Author and narrator are my very favorite combo on Audible! This part of the story introduced new skills and abilities which I can’t wait to see come to fruition in The Land. Beware of the curse and can’t wait for the next book xD
