Wealthy and successful, she leads a lonely and disjointed existence. Dean is a young, unemployed, single dad whose life is going nowhere. Robyn is 18. Gorgeous, popular, and intelligent, she entered her first year of college confident about her dream to become a pediatrician. Now she's failing her classes. Now she's falling in love for the first time.

Lydia, Dean, and Robyn live very different lives, but each of them, independently, has always felt that something was missing. loved this story

My first book by this author and it will definitely not be the last. A very well plotted story told so well by an excellent narrator. I absolutely loved it.

Enjoyable listen

Very enjoyable. I liked all of the characters. The premise is a timely one as there are many people in the world created by a sperm donor. I liked how we got to know each person and their lives. I enjoy mysteries, however, found this book to be a good solid listen. I always enjoy Helen Duff's narrations.

An interesting look at siblings created by sperm donation. The story of each sibling and their connection was interesting.

Extraordinary Stories

I am probably not Lisa Jewel’s target demographic, but I love her stories. The characters are relatable and real. Helen Duff’s narration is wonderful. The Making of Us is my 5th listen in a row from Lisa Jewell with Duff’s narration. I Found You, The Third Wife, Before I Met You and Then She Was Gone are all amazing. Keep them coming Lisa Jewell, this 54 year old American male will continue to listen.

Best book I've read in a long time!

I was hooked within the first 30 minutes. There are so many characters and the narrator is brilliant at differentiating them all. It's not a romantic idea, (the basis of the book) but somehow I still felt swept up by the storytelling. This is my second book to read by Lisa Jewell. The first, "I Found You" was also captivating, but I think this one was better. Highly recommend!

Life Is Complex

This is an interesting story of nature/nurture, personal legacy, and accountability. It took me a bit to get hooked and realize what was going on and who was who, but once the cast of characters was established, the threads began to converge. This is a relationship story. No big action or adventure, as predictable as braiding long, thick hair, but pleasing in it's conclusion just the same.

Great entertainment

I have recently discovered this author and this is the third book I've listened to in a row. They're not great "mysteries" (my favorite genre) and probably too unbelievable to satisfy someone who is looking for great literary fiction...and YET, the stories are "unputdownable." The author somehow makes you care for these implausible characters and the twists and turns of their lives. She can count me as one of her newest fans.

I really enjoyed this book.

I found this book pretty mellow and enjoyable. I actually had to slow down because I didn't want to finish the book too soon. I got to warm up to all of the characters and couldn't pick a favorite. It made me think of the years I spent in London :)
I LOVE Helen Duff!!! It's hard to move on from her voice to anyone else's.

Similarities

I enjoyed this book. The accents were distinguishable. I noticed references for American listeners. I assume the British version does not do this.

A fascinating book

I liked the whole story and the interesting way it was woven together and left no loose ends hanging . . . Just the kind of story one needs to read amid the chaos of today’s today!
Absolutely I would recommend this book!

Lisa Jewell my favorite lately

I have immersed myself in every Lisa Jewell book I can get my hands on lately. I enjoy her character build up and especially enjoyed reading The Making of Us. All of the characters came and fit together so well. I can’t wait to read the next book.
